I do not know where I came from. I can only begin my story from what I can remember. They call me Donna Pierce. I used to be Donna but, she died when this story began. I am Raven Moore now. Let’s start from the beginning.

    Chapter 1- Found

Donna Pierce, the nurse calls. I stood and followed her to the back. She took my weight, height, and blood pressure. Five foot three, one hundred and twenty-five pounds, and high blood pressure, nurse Mandy says. I let out a sigh. Are you on any medications? She asks. No, I reply. Is there any change in diet? She asks. No, I reply. The doctor will be in with you shortly, she says as she leaves the room. I look around the small room, awaiting the doctor. I sigh as I look at my watch. Glad that I’m off work today, I say silently. A few minutes later the doctor comes in. Hello Donna, the doctor says. Hello doctor Richards, I reply. I don’t see you that often. Must be time for your physical, he says. The doctor looks over the chart then raises his eyebrows. I see that your blood pressure is high, he says. That’s what the nurse said, I replied. You have a great record of normal blood pressure. Is there a stress factor? He asks. My job maybe. Pushing pencils with a boss like mine isn’t easy, I reply. Doctor Richards laughs, I understand. Your labs came back normal. You’re healthy for forty-four, he says. I’d better be. My boss would be infuriated if I was sick. Though he has dozens of workers, I reply. The doctor laughs again. Reduce the stress, Donna. See you in two years or when you get ill enough, he says. Okay, thanks Doctor Richards, I reply. He leaves the room. I wait for my paperwork from the nurse. She happily enters the room. Here is your paperwork. You have no follow-up appointments…, she says handing me the papers. I take the paperwork and nod. Have a good day, she says leaving the room.

I leave the clinic and take my time walking home. I live about an hour away, maybe a little further. I like to take walks when I can for the scenery plus, it helps ease my mind. I knew the route and the short cuts. I decided to take the short cut when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around, no one was there. I sighed. As I turned back in the right direction, I was startled by a pair of blue eyes. I jumped but didn’t scream. Sorry Miss. Didn’t mean to scare you, the man said. There was something familiar about him. I relaxed a bit, waiting for my heart to get back into my chest. It’s alright, I say studying him. He was about 4 inches taller than me. I stared into his icy eyes. I’m Spencer, he says extending his hand. Donna, I reply shaking his hand. Two drunkards decided to come down the alley. Spencer must have noticed my nervousness. It’s quite alright. Would you mind if I escorted you out of this alley? He asks. Nervously I reply, I would appreciate that. He smiled. His physique was that of a brawler though his dress code screamed businessman. You don’t seem like the type that would be in this part of the city, I say. A friend was supposed to meet me here but never showed. I figured I’d walk around a bit, he replied.

I kind of felt sorry for this guy. This friend of yours sounds like a real piece of work, I say. He chuckles. Before, we could get out of the alley another set of men blocked our exit. Spencer stopped and so did I. What a nice pair, one of the men says. I look at Spencer. He wasn’t nervous at all. If you would excuse us gentlemen, Spencer says. We will excuse you sir but, not the lady, the other man replies. The other man decided to grab me. My head began to hurt, my heart began to pound. I closed my eyes to stop the sick feeling that I was getting. Stand up lady, the man yelled yanking me to my feet. Suddenly, I felt consumed by darkness. I took a deep breath. The sick feeling was gone. I opened my eyes. Took you long enough Raven, Spencer says. I elbowed the guy holding me square in the nose. He let me go and held his face in pain. Is that how you treat a lady, I yell. The two drunkards and the other man were now coming at us wildly. Spencer knocked the knife out of one of their hands. He then headbutted him. I on the other hand was grappling with another. My knee connected with him, and he dropped. They never learn, Spencer says. Guess not, I reply. There was one left and Spencer waited for him to attack. When the guy made the choice to attack, Spencer punched him in the face. The guy was slumped. Let’s go, I say. We walked out of the alley. What brings you here? I ask. You did, he replies. I did not. At least I don’t recall, I say. Raven, he sighs. It’s Donna…Donna Pierce, I say. Better known as Raven Moore, Spencer replies. I was confused. Have you been docile for so long that you don’t remember who you are? He asks. I plainly look at him. Come on, I’ll walk you home, he sighs. My blood pressure was high. It’s my day off work, I say.

The last time that I saw you Raven, there was a war. You had fallen. Time and time again we searched for you. Today, I felt that I would find you, he explains. I’m not Raven, I sigh. Spencer was silent. When we got to my apartment building, I looked at him. Thanks for walking me home, I say. Spencer looks at his watch. Got a date, I say playful. No, I do have somewhere to be, he replies. I look at him. His icy blue eyes turned black then back to blue. My head was spinning now. I could feel myself falling. In darkness I lay.

Raven…Raven! I heard a woman calling me. I opened my eyes. What? I grumble. Welcome back, she says. I look at her. Layla, I gasp. The one and only. Took you long enough to emerge, she says. Dormant is my preference, I say sitting up. Awakening means issues, I continue. He escaped, she says. My eyes widen. What? When? You’ve got to be kidding me. Well…that explains Spencer searching for me, I say. You were the reason that we captured him, she says. Yet, he escaped. Was he not monitored? I ask. He somehow grew stronger, Spencer says. Well, with people growing curious about supernatural things it’s not shocking, I reply. He’s out there, among them, Layla says. Troubling but not shocking, I reply. Spencer chuckles. I wish that I was still asleep, I mumble. Question! How were you able to escape the fall? Layla asks. Some secrets we don’t share, I reply. Spencer laughs. Good old Raven is back, he says. It’s never good when we show up. We are evil that battles evil. The irony, I say. Father had concerns, Layla says. Oh! He knows that I’m awake. Father knows tons, I chuckle. Dominic is our father now, she says. I give her a stern look. She backed away. Raven, Spencer says. You know the history Spence, I reply. He’s changed since he took his father’s chair, Layla says. If you believe that then, you believe that I’m actually… a person, I snicker. Ouch! Spencer exclaims. Enough with your depression Raven, she snaps. My black eyes look through her. Go and tell your husband that I emerged. I will deal with this issue, I say. Layla was silent for a moment. I’m not even going to ask. You could have sat in the chair instead, she says. No thanks…I like freedom, I reply. Things have changed Raven. You have been gone quite a while. Get adjusted, she says as she leaves the room. What year is it? I ask. Two thousand twenty-four, Spencer replies. It has been a while, I sigh. We live above now, he says. Explains the suit, I reply. Hey! What’s wrong with the suit? Spencer asks. Nothing at all. Just saying, I reply. Raven! He exclaims. I know Spencer, I reply. We have a private community. There are vacant apartments, Spencer says. Locked in again, I huff. No! This is how we are separated…, he explains. No! This is how Dominic contains us, I reply.

You can’t return to your sleep state. Just deal with it, Raven, Spencer says. I look at Spencer. What is there to fear? I ask. Powerful beings, he replies. I roll my eyes. Layla comes back into the room along with Dominic. Welcome back Raven, Dominic says. I look at him. I’m so glad that you could finally join us, he says. I decided to play along. I make a fist and place it on the left side of my chest. Father, I say. He smiles. Layla will show you around the community, he says. Fine! I exclaim. Spencer says, I’ll see you later Raven. I nod. I then follow Layla. She took me to a single house. This is Blake Avenue, she says. The house number is 42. I must be the 42nd to arrive from my regime, I sigh. Wow! You really are that good, Layla says. Should have figured that you had doubts, I reply. I’m a, believe what I see type, she says. Really! You may want to be careful then. Things are not always what they seem, I say. Welcome to the community, she replies handing the keys over to me. I take the keys then she walks away. I unlock the door and go inside. It was already furnished. I sit at the table in the dark. After a few minutes the lights turned on. I looked and saw Dominic standing in the doorway. Darkness is not always a good place, he says. What do you need? I ask. You were my father’s top soldier. Are you still fearless? He asks. Why don’t you ask Spencer? I reply. Dominic smiles. No need for that. Find him and maybe I’ll consider putting you back to docile, he says. My normal life is done. You know, an awakening… changes the host, I say. Correction! It kills the soul, he replies. Is my gear here? I ask. Examine your home Raven and get comfortable. Welcome back, Dominic says before leaving. I huff then walk to the basement. Sure-enough my gear was in a box. I go upstairs and check my wardrobe. Tch…should have known fancy suits and black dresses, I mumble. I look in the mirror. Oh my! This isn’t my face, I gasp. I close my eyes, using not even a fraction of my energy to find me. I smile when I open my eyes. There I am, I say. My black straight shoulder length hair, shiny as usual. My face is not pale but reddish brown. My eyes are dark as night. I put on one of the suits along with the flat dress shoes. I take a deep breath. Well, here goes nothing, I say. I went downstairs. I opened the door and Spencer was standing there. He just stared at me. Spence, I say. I see you haven’t lost your touch, he says. Why would I? I ask. Grab your gear, he says. I just woke up, I complained. I turn and grab my gear. A symbolic dagger with a leg strap. I put it on. A pair of dark sunglasses and a black watch. I put those on as well. Gear on, I say into the watch. Great! Spencer exclaims. I could hear him through the sunglasses. I go back upstairs. I lock the house. Come and meet the team, Spencer says. I followed him in the limousine. The door opened. I got in. Spencer followed. Hey Spence, a man says. Lee Yang meet Raven Moore, Spencer replies. Thee… Raven Moore, Lee says stunned. You’re bad ass. I’m Arris Lynn, the redhead says. Metro Boil, another male says. Polly Parker, the petite woman introduces. Positions? I ask. Yang is tech, Lynn is gear, Boil is arsenal and Parker is vision, Spencer replies. Driver? I ask. Ray Shad, he replies. Objective? I ask. Wow! Right to it, Boil says.  We are going to the city. We work for Mister Muerte, who is Dominic of course. We usually have business meetings. One of the factions wants out. It is our job to make sure they remember how this works, Spencer explains. So, call on the authorities, I say. Well put, he replies. Just like old times my friend, I say. Spencer says, just don’t fall. Why did I fall? I ask. Spencer stopped chuckling. What don’t we know? Boil asks. Raven fell in the last war. She saved Dominic from him, Spencer says. Yang gasps. Keep it among yourselves, Spencer says. Technically, she is supposed to be the new leader, Lynn says. I’ll pass, I reply. Raven, is that you I hear? Ray asks in the comm. The one and only, I reply. Welcome back. Be wary of this bunch. Unlike us, they lack control, Ray says. Understood, I replied. Ready everyone? Ray asks. Ready, we all reply. He started the engine. I just listened to everyone talk. Yang kept peeking at me. I took no offense. I stared out the window. I understand your reluctance, Parker says to me. I would have chosen dormant if I had a choice, I sigh. Sometimes we are chosen for a reason, she says. I suppose I should be thankful huh, I reply. Ray laughs. What’s funny? Parker asks. You’ll see, he replies. I continue to look out the window. We drove into a parking lot. Destination, Boil says happily.

We exited the limousine. We walked to the elevator and went to the 13th floor. We then walked to a conference room. I follow Spencer’s lead. Raven, you lead now, he says. Just waking up, I complain. Then I sensed it. A strong omnipotent presence. Here comes the cavalry, I say. Four gentlemen enter the room. Where is your boss? I ask. The gentlemen kept their heads down. Guess they’re too good to speak, Parker says. Visual, I say. On it, Parker says. She closed her eyes then she gasped. What is it? Boil asks. That can’t be, Parker replies horrified. My ears began to buzz. I started breathing heavily. Spencer tensed. A tall gentleman walked into the room. He was tanned, his blonde hair neatly combed behind his ear, and his green eyes were intense. I see…Mister Muerte has sent the authorities. To what do we owe the pleasure? he says, looking at each of us. His French accent moderate. The arrangement with Mr. Muerte is intact, isn’t it? I ask. He looks at me then smiles. If you are here then yes, he replies. Mr. Bonjour…I’m not following, Spencer says nervous. Is she your leader? He asks. No, Spencer replies. Pity! I can feel her energy. Dominic is a fool, he says. Who are you? Parker asks. She can tell you who I am, he replies. This is him…, I reply. Boil went to stand. Don’t, I order. Tell me of your arrangement please, I say. I have dozens of his soldiers. I offered to free them for a price, he says. What price? Spencer asks. I only wanted one of his soldiers and you delivered. Therefore, I will honor my word, he says. Which one of us? Lee asks. Well…Raven of course, he replies. Dominic
