I watched the steam rise from the coffee machine, pouring the next drink.

Handing it over to the customer, I went to the other side of the kiosk and sat down.

Finally, time for a break.

It was October 2020 and I was working as a barista in a London cafe.

Work was busy but I was happy, loved people watching on my breaks.

Clocking a girl walking in with a lip piercing, I smiled.

I'd had one years ago, but let it close up.

Maybe it's time to get it re-done, I thought.

By now, I'd had ten tattoos, mostly skulls.

I had a real fascination with them.
