Introduction
You know back in the day, my momma used to say that family was nothing more than a tree made up of branches. And I used to believe her. Each branch would come together as a different part of the family and make the tree up as one. Some say that the roots of the tree was considered to be its heart. And through that root the tree would stand firm and bold. A tree like that was considered sacred, treasured to the point that it could never be touched. A tree that no person could ever take away. My momma was the root of that tree, the heart of the Rogers family. She stood taller than any of us and she wouldn’t let anyone try to bait or hurt our family. It’s sad because Momma’s gone now and there’s nothing left of her but a cold stone in according to her memory. And though the pain that was made from her loss stained deep within our hearts. The stories of my momma would last forever. My name is Dale Rogers and this is the story of my family tree.
Chapter 1
A Fresh Start
As I approached the building before me a sense of joy and relief begin to flow within my body. Pushing the door open as I proceeded towards the desk. It’s happening, I said to myself as I looked around, I finally get to start over in a new environment. As I stood still with a smile on my face and my head down I heard a lady at the front desk begin to speak.
Hey, you must be the new maid I hired,
she said with her hands around her waist as she smiled. By looking at this women standing in front of me my joy then began to take a turn for the worse as I began to show signs of nervousness. Yes, I am,
I replied as I began to stutter and sweat as I answered. After doing so I could see the smile on her face begin to widen as her voice filled the air with laughter.
You don’t have to be nervous here, sweetie,
she said. I’m only here to help you,
she said while looking at me with a smile.
Thank you,
I replied after I slowly took a breath of air.
I’m sorry if I startled you, I know it’s your first day so let’s start from the beginning, my name is Daisy Dixon. I’m twenty-eight and I like fishing and long walks on the beach. And today I will be your guide through the nursing home today.
Thanks,
I said, my name is Nancy Grey and I just moved here today. I just turned nineteen and this is my first time doing this line of work. But I promise you I will give it my best.
Well, aren’t you cute,
she said while holding out her hand in front of me. After doing so I began to shake it with a smile. After doing so our conversation was interrupted by a loud boom coming from a door at the end of the hallway. As I stood there I could see all the nurses begin to run that way. Even Daisy, as she ran forward I could hear her voice in the distance tell me to wait right here until she returned. What was going on, I asked myself as I continued to wait for her arrival as I listened. Seconds later I could hear a couple of nurses yelling out towards each other, some were even yelling out for a lady named Martha. As they continued to yell for her I could hear one of the nurses volunteer to go find her. In the midst of all the commotion I then here a familiar voice, it was Daisy’s voice yelling towards someone and asking them to stop. Telling them that Martha would be on the way shortly But in doing so the noises in the room proceeded to get louder. As someone began to yell and scream at the top of their lungs. Listening closely to the voice I could immediately tell that it was the voice of a women. As she began to cry I could hear her yell these words over again: Don’t leave me,
she said, they all left me and now you’re leaving me too.
As I continued to listen closely to this lady cry and scream I could tell she was in great pain. Then as a few more seconds had passed as I looked down the hall, everything began to go silent. And there was a unknown voice who now filled the air speaking toward the women, saying, There, there, I’m here now, I’m right by your side, where I will always be.
As I stood still listening to this lady’s voice I then noticed Daisy walking back towards me. Brushing herself off she began to
