About this ebook
He led Grace to the swing by the swimming pool. Sitting closely beside each other on the swing, they gently moved forward and backward.
“How often do you do this?” Grace asked, feeling so relaxed.
“As often as I feel romantic?”
“That is strange! I was beginning to nurture the idea that you are some super human who has no need for the company of the opposite sex, not to talk of getting romantic.”
“Well, you are now hearing it from the horse’s mouth. All these years that I have been alone, I often come out here at such odd hours when I feel the need for a woman in my life. When the sky is bright with twilight, when the moon is full, when earth borrows light from the brilliant light of the sky, I look up to the moon and pray to God that its bright light searches out the one woman, meant to ll up my lonely heart, and bring her across my path.”
“Now I know you are truly romantic.” “Today, the moon is full, I have brought you out here to say to the God of the moon, the stars and the universe, she is here, you’ve sought her out and crossed our paths.”
“Are you superstitious or what?” “Certainly not, but I believe that if God created everything we see and cannot see as we were taught in Sunday school, then God can work mysteriously through anything. Amazingly, it was a full moon night that we crossed each other’s path in a rather pathetic way. But here we are today...”
“I know what you are getting at. Considering everything that happened, I could easily be tempted to believe in your philosophy, you know!”
“Do you call that a philosophy?” “What else could I have called it?” “Whatever, but I think it actually worked out that way.”
“So am I supposed to be the moonlight girl?”
“You can simply put it that way.”

PREFACE
He led Grace to the swing by the swimming pool. Sitting closely beside each other on the swing, they gently moved forward and backward.
How often do you do this?
Grace asked, feeling so relaxed.
As often as I feel romantic?
That is strange! I was beginning to nurture the idea that you are some super human who has no need for the company of the opposite sex, not to talk of getting romantic.
Well, you are now hearing it from the horse’s mouth. All these years that I have been alone, I often come out here at such odd hours when I feel the need for a woman in my life. When the sky is bright with twilight, when the moon is full, when earth borrows light from the brilliant light of the sky, I look up to the moon and pray to God that its bright light searches out the one woman, meant to ll up my lonely heart, and bring her across my path.
Now I know you are truly romantic.
Today, the moon is full, I have brought you out here to say to the God of the moon, the stars and the universe, she is here, you’ve sought her out and crossed our paths.
Are you superstitious or what?
Certainly not, but I believe that if God created everything we see and cannot see as we were taught in Sunday school, then God can work mysteriously through anything. Amazingly, it was a full moon night that we crossed each other’s path in a rather pathetic way. But here we are today…
I know what you are getting at. Considering everything that happened, I could easily be tempted to believe in your philosophy, you know!
Do you call that a philosophy?
What else could I have called it?
Whatever, but I think it actually worked out that way.
So am I supposed to be the moonlight girl?
You can simply put it that way.

CHAPTER 1
The large clock in the sitting room chimed; Grace looked up and it was six in the evening. Curiously, she peeped through the window blind to see the reaction of the large crowd of guests outside. Everyone looked weary and anxious.
Turning around, her mother was standing in her front, wearing a consoling look. Don't worry dear, he will be here before you know it. I believe he hasn’t gone far.
How could he leave our guests and walk away Mama? Everyone is waiting for him. He has been gone for long.
Don’t let it bother you much or you will look ill before your guests. I know Bode will be here, he would not walk out on you on your day of traditional marriage.
Mrs. Kolawole walked away to attend to the guests. Everyone appeared to be very busy. Some were drinking, some dancing and some chatting in groups. Her friends and family were shuttling the kitchen and the open space outside where canopies were raised to shelter the guests.
A live band performed sweet music that Grace had carefully selected for her special day. They played well and made the occasion full of life.
Grace decided to get her sister, Rebecca, to be with her. No one seemed to have seen her sister as she kept asking and searching.
She looked in all the rooms and her sister was nowhere to be found. Worried and confused, she walked down the corridor that led to the back door, hoping to see her behind the house.
As she approached the door, she heard sounds coming from the bathroom along the corridor. They were pleasurable sounds of sexual ecstasy. She went closer to the door and listened intently to be sure. She could clearly hear her ancé’s voice.
You are so sweet,
he moaned. I wish it were you I am getting married to; you are just different from your sister who claims to forbid premarital sex…
Grace couldn’t stand hearing more of it. She forced the bathroom door open to be sure she was not imagining things. She was stunned to nd her sister astride her husband to be, right in the bathtub.
Becky!
she screamed. What wrong have I done to deserve this? Why are you bent on destroying every relationship I get into just when it is blossoming into marriage?
Grace sobbed as she queried her sister angrily.
Are you jealous? It is not my fault that I am prettier than you and all your men end up chasing after me.
Becky sounded sarcastic and unconcerned.
Petried, Grace suddenly found her legs and ed into her bedroom, picked up her car keys and without a second thought, rushed into her car and drove off. No one could stop her as she was very swift.
Grace had lost her mind and was just driving absent-mindedly. She was on the highest speed, driving to nowhere in particular on the highway.
The screeching sound of vehicle wheels, followed by a bash sound, brought her mind back to the road. Just then, she realized her car was somersaulting in the air.
In a jiffy, the car came crashing on the hard tarred road with the top of the car on the ground.
Help me,
came the feeble voice of Grace as the car was compressed; her face had crashed into the windscreen and was terribly battered. The blood rushed as though from a spring. She collapsed and went into a blackout.
The owner of the jeep that had run into her was by the car in seconds. The road was deserted with just a couple of cars passing by. However, for fear of terrible happenings on that road in recent times, no one would stop to lend a helping hand.
He however managed to get her out of the battered car. As soon as he got her into his car and started to drive away, the battered car exploded into ames.
Grace was rushed to the hospital where she was immediately admitted in the emergency unit. The medical attendants were at work on her body, trying hard to stop the bleeding and administering breathing aid to her.
After a period of serious work, the bleeding was controlled. All necessary treatments were administered to ensure she stayed alive.
Let me see you in my ofce,
said Doctor Tunde, to the worried Mr. Douglas, who had brought in the victim of the accident to the hospital. He had been Douglas’ doctor for so many years and never had the good doctor seen him in such state of confusion. He was the kind that was always in charge of anything and everything, at least, so did everyone think.
Will she be okay?
Mr. Douglas questioned the doctor as he followed him into the doctor’s ofce.
We are doing our best. Healing is in the hands of God, we are His instruments. Keep praying for her.
Shutting the door behind them, the doctor offered him a seat.
Are you in anyway related to the victim or is she one of your random pickups?
Doctor Tunde sounded quizzical.
No Doc, I am not related to her, I was involved in the accident and since nothing happened to me, I took the responsibility to try saving her life.
Well, her spinal cord was slightly affected. She will need to be treated therapeutically to help her walk normal after recovery. Her face has been battered beyond recognition, hence she will also need a plastic surgery to restore her look. We are going to need someone to sign for her and pay the initial deposit before the operation will commence. She has lost a lot of blood and will need a blood donor immediately.
Doctor, please do everything in your power to make sure she is fully alright. I know she is in capable hands and money shouldn’t be an issue, I will foot the bill to the last. No purse was found on her at the accident scene and her car got burnt, hence we cannot contact her people now until she regains consciousness. I will therefore sign on her behalf as long as you give me your word that the operation will go smooth.
As I said earlier, we do our best, God heals the patient. But we have never recorded any surgery mishap in the past and I believe that God will see us through this one.
I can see you have so much trust in your God. Let me count on you for that and hope your God does not let you down.
He never does, He is always faithful and I am surprised you still think of God in that manner. We could talk about Him later if you don’t mind, but right now, let’s try saving a life.
Tell me doctor, medically speaking, will she survive this?
Medically speaking, she will be ne. But I would hate to see her suffer shock over the monstrous look she got from this accident.
Then get to work and make her look human again. As I said, I will foot the bill. I am a universal donor and I am willing to donate the needed blood.
There is a snag there; we cannot give her a facial surgery without her permission, or at least, that of a family member. However, report immediately at the laboratory and get tested before the blood will be drawn, we should at least save her life rst.
Is the lab test not going to take much time? I mean will she survive waiting that long?
We have blood reserve for emergency that is already sustaining her. But she is going to need more later on.
Ok, doctor, I will do just as you have instructed.
One more thing friend, we need to speak to the police about this, it is against our ethics to threat an accident or gunshot patient without involving the police.
Giving it a moment of thought, Douglas responded with a beseeching look. "I do hope I would not be asking too much of you if I said you should please hold on for a while as you have assured me she is going to be alright; you know how demanding police investigations can be and that would certainly be a snag on my business. Please, let us hold on for the lady
