    SAVING SARAH

    CHAPTER 1

If you are reading this, chances are I’m already dead, or alive somewhere. I don’t know how long I’ve been here. Please don’t throw this away, this is not some sick joke I’m trying to play on you. My name is Sarah-Mae Collins, I was kidnapped when I was 17 years old. You can search for my name, but I’m not sure if anyone reported it, just so you know I’m not lying. I’ve had two miscarriages before, now he got what he always wanted I wonder if he will let me go. It’s just a thought. I don’t remember anything about how I got here but I do remember I have a family who I would give anything to see right now. I am able to write this letter because he brings scraps of paper for my son to color on, this is another reason why it is written in crayon. I am in a cabin surrounded by an electric fence, and lots of trees. There is one window, one door. I have a necklace he gave me, but it’s nothing fancy, if I shout or scream, I get electrocuted. Isn’t he thoughtful? It really is a beautiful property, I’m not sure if the fence is to keep the animals out or keep me in given that I get to bring Riley outside once a week for fresh air. Many times, I have thought about ending my life, but then I have to remember I’m not living for myself anymore. Maybe this is why God made it possible for me to have a child. I am originally from Bangladesh, but we moved to Texas two years ago after my mother passed away from pneumonia. My parents were married for 32 years. I pray that someday I will find that kind of love, but for now I will have to do with this. You’re probably wondering why I haven’t tried to escape, but I have and It never ends well for me. One time, he had forgotten to activate the gate and I made it through. I thought I was going to make it but he shot me. It almost cost me my life. This letter is my last chance. I’m expecting him here today, he comes once every month to bring food and take riley out. I’m not sure where. Keep me in your prayers.

    ––––––––

Hi. I said as I smiled seeing my wife’s beautiful face. How was your day?

It was fine. I slept mostly, there is nothing else to do around here. How was your day? she responded.

My day was busy as expected. I wish I could spend my days with you, but you know I have to work. I can try to be home earlier. How does that sound?

    Sounds perfect to me.

I’m happy you think so. I bought pizza, and your favorite lemonade drink from fresco.

Thank God you bought pizza, because the meat loaf I did, tasted like old socks. By the way the shop called. They said you can pick up your car from the shop tomorrow.

Perfect. I was getting tired of taking the bus. I found a letter today, while waiting on the bus. I stated.

What exactly do you mean? Was it addressed to you? she asked.

No. I don’t think it was addressed to anyone. I really don’t know why I picked it up. I opened it once I got on the bus, it kept me awake. For once I didn’t miss my stop. I responded jokingly. Get your car from the shop tomorrow it’s not safe out there. Do you need me to remind you what happened to me?

I promise I will collect it before I go to work. What do you say about us having dinner tomorrow night? It’s been a while.

I love the sound of that. She whispered placing her glossed lips against mine. The dishes are all yours tonight. And because of all your hard work, and all that you have done for us, I have something special for you tonight.

Really? How about I do the dishes in the morning, that way we can spend more time doing whatever it is you have planned. I said flirtatiously.

She chuckled and said, Nice try. I’ll see you in the bedroom, unless you want what I have for you out here?

I finished the dishes, took out the trash all in under five minutes.

    ––––––––

The following morning, I started my day earlier than usual, because I promised my wife, I will collect the car before work.

Good morning nurse, how is my schedule looking for today? I asked as I threw on my smock.

Morning doctor Taylor. Rachel replied enthusiastically. She has been my assistant for the past three years and she is also a good friend.

Yes, just one patient today, and that is Patrice Collins. She is in for her 33-week prenatal checkup.

Great and the rest of my day is clear?

Yes, that is until 1pm. You and the other doctors have a meeting at noon.

I can already feel today is going to be awesome.

Seems to me like you had a perfect night doctor, I can’t wait to meet your wife. So, when will I meet her?

Soon. I promise. Ok. Go ahead and send Mrs. Collins in. Thank you, Rachel!   Good morning Mrs. Collins, you are glowing today. You must tell me what your secret is. I stated checking her vitals.

Unless you can carry a child doctor, I’m afraid I can’t help you. She joked.

Everything is fine, except for a mild yeast infection you have. I will write you a prescription for ointment for three days. Are there any concerns you have that you want me to know?

No. I think that is it. I am having a baby shower next week, I was wondering if you and your wife would like to attend, after all I consider you a friend.

Of course, we will. Is there anything specific you need us to bring?

I will send you my baby registry.

Okay, perfect. We are done here. Remember to drink lots of water and stay away from caffeine, and I’ll see you in 2 weeks. Make your appointment with the nurse out front.

It was 2 hours before our annual meeting.
