The sword trembled in Elion’s hand as he breathed heavily and stared at the dead goblins around him. The first wave had tried to take over the nearby human village—a tiny dale filled with innocents—and Elion had no doubt another would soon arrive.

His blue and red mottled skin glistened with the slickness of blood—yellow and ochre… the blood of trogs, goblins. Elion had not interacted much with the locals of the places far beyond his homeland. Until now. He could not stand by as the trogs committed their slaughter.

Once he started killing the invading goblins, he didn’t stop. The latter ones tried to flee once Elion had culled their numbers, but he’d given chase. They cried out, claiming they were pursued by the spirit of Davian Whisperwynd, the legendary selumari goblin slayer.

Elion was no selumari. He was an empyrean, a firewalker—a hidden race birthed by Davian, a coral elf, and the goddess Roweena—he knew about Davian. And he knew about trogs. Elion slaughtered them all.

Over half a dozen had dropped their weapons. They held up their hands and tried to surrender. Elion did not accept it.
