REDPAW AND GREENTAIL
Redpaw and Greentail are two tiny dragons, so tiny that at first glance you cannot see them. They are magical and their task is to teach all children from birth to develop and identify their emotions and help them connect with these emotions and try to find out where they feel them in their body.
They are always busy, day and night. And do you know how they do it? They come up to your ear, ask you what you are feeling, and help you name that feeling.
Greentail is an expert in identifying FEAR, ANGER, SADNESS and Redpaw JOY and LOVE. They always work together and they do it very well.
One day they were looking for someone to help. They saw a little girl, about five years old, in deep thought, sitting in a chair in the garden of her house. They took it upon themselves to find out what was wrong. Redpaw placed himself in her left ear and Greentail in her right ear.
-What is your name little one? -asked Redpaw.
-Squishy -answered the girl.
She turned around and didn’t see anyone. She remained sitting and silent.
-Can you tell me what’s wrong with you? -asked Greentail. My brother Redpaw and I, Greentail is my name, are here to help you.
-So where are you? I can’t see you -said Squishy.
-We are in your ears so you can hear us well -they answered.
-Ohhhhh! I would like to see you, may I?
-Well, said Greentail, maybe this one time we can grow a little so you can see us.
And with their magic they grew to the size of a mouse. Clapping, Squishy got excited as she saw 2 beautiful dragons, who looked like toys, and she started talking to them.
-I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I just know that I don’t even feel like playing.
-So it’s my job to help you -said Greentail-. Let’s see, can you tell me what was the last thing that happened before you didn’t want to play anymore? Maybe you saw or heard something that you don’t quite understand?
-Well I don’t know, Mom and Dad were talking about Dad’s work and I got like this, do you know what’s wrong with me? -asked Squishy.
-I’m going to find out. Do you feel sad with the urge to cry? -Greentail said staring at her.
-No, I don’t feel like crying. I feel something in my belly but it’s not pain.
-So you’re scared because you heard something you don’t understand and you see your Mom and Dad talking about the same thing very often and this gives you FEAR.
-Mmmmm, yes I think so, but why do I have this feeling in my belly?
-Because your body has to feel the fear somewhere, and in your case it does so with an upset stomach.
Greentail held her hand and kept asking:
-Have you been afraid before?
-Yes, but I have felt fear when I am scared by a story where there is a bad witch, or when in a video someone bad hurts a little animal and I am afraid that he will hurt more. Do you think I’m feeling Fear right now?
-Maybe, do you remember if on those occasions you also had the same feeling in your little belly?
-No, I don’t remember -said Squishy.
-Well, what you are going to do, next time they read you a story and you feel fear, is to see if you feel it in your belly and that way you will know that what you are feeling now is also fear.
-And what can I do to make it go away? -asked Squishy.
-What you have to do, and it is very important, is to ask your Mom and Dad if there are problems with your Dad’s work, so that they know that you are worried and that it has happened so many times, that now you are afraid that something horrible could happen -Greentail advised her.
-Thank you, I’ll go to see them right away to ask them.
Redpaw and Greentail told her that they would see her the following day to see if their advice had been helpful, so they became very small again.
Squishy immediately went looking for her parents and found them once again chatting in her Dad’s work room. She sat next to her mother and when she had enough courage she asked:
-Mom, is there something happening with Dad’s work?
-Oh, Squishy, don’t worry, you are too young to understand these things. Everything is going to be fine -her Mom told her.
-I am scared and since you don’t explain to me what is happening, I am very afraid.
-Look daughter, -her Dad told her. The thing is, we are deciding on my work. You have been listening when we talked about this, and I didn’t think it would scare you, but you are right. When you don’t know what is happening, you can imagine things that scare you. The job they are offering me is better, but it is a little further away, so that is why we are thinking about it. From now on, whenever you have a question, you can ask it with confidence. It is very unpleasant to be afraid. I hope that by hearing why we are talking so much about my work and you understand that it is not a bad thing, the fear will go away. Mom is hugging you tight so that you can calm down and the Fear goes away. When you really know what is going on and you stop imagining other things, you feel at peace. Do you feel better now?
-Yes Dad, thanks for explaining it to me.
The next day, she went back to sit in the garden again and waited for Redpaw and Greentail to return to see her. After a while she heard Greentail’s voice:
-Hi Squishy, how did it go with your parents?
-Very good Greentail, they explained to me what was happening
