H appy birthday, dear .

It’s the text message I got from my grandparents.

Reading the message from my grandparents brought a warm smile to my face, a gentle reminder of the unwavering love and support that accompanied me, even from miles away. Despite the physical distance that separated us, their words carried the familiar warmth of home, filling me with a sense of comfort and belonging on my special day.

Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa, I typed back, my fingers dancing across the screen as I conveyed my gratitude. Your birthday wishes mean the world to me. I can’t wait to talk to you both later.

It is Saturday, 12th of June.

As the sun rose and cast a golden hue over the cityscape, I awoke to the warmth of anticipation tingling in the air. Twenty years had passed since my first breath, and today marked the dawn of a new chapter in my journey through life.

The summer breeze danced through the open window, carrying with it the promise of adventure and possibility. With each breath, I felt the weight of expectation mingled with excitement, knowing that today was no ordinary day: it was my 20th birthday.

As I busied myself in the kitchen, the aroma of pancakes filling the air, my phone buzzed on the counter, momentarily interrupting my culinary pursuits. Glancing at the screen, I saw my grandparents’ names flashing, and with a smile, I answered the call.

Good morning, Grandma, and Grandpa, I greeted them warmly, the familiar sound of their voices bringing a sense of comfort to the bustling kitchen.

Good morning, dear! How are you on this special day? my grandmother chimed in, her voice filled with warmth and affection.

I’m great, Grandma! Just getting ready for the day, I replied, a hint of excitement lacing my words. I’m making breakfast for Mom and David.

Oh, how lovely! I’m sure they’ll appreciate the gesture, my grandfather chimed in, his voice resonating with pride.

As we chatted, exchanging updates and sharing laughter, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for their presence in my life, even from miles away. Despite the physical distance that separated us, the bond between us remained unbreakable, a testament to the enduring power of family.

Okay, dear, and by the way, I hope you enjoy our birthday gift to you. Your grandfather and I are now heading for our daily walk. Enjoy your day and take care of yourself, sweetie, Grandmother said.

Thank you, Grandma, and Grandpa, I replied, gratitude swelling within me at the thought of their thoughtful gift. I can’t wait to see what it is. Have a wonderful walk, and I’ll talk to you both soon. I love you!

With a soft click, the call ended, leaving me with a sense of warmth and anticipation for the day ahead. As I returned to the kitchen, the scent of pancakes and the promise of celebration filled the air, infusing the morning with a sense of joy and excitement.

Then I was startled by the unexpected collision, I stumbled backward, only to find myself face to face with my stepfather, David, who stood before me with a bemused smile dancing upon his lips. His presence in the kitchen caught me off guard, disrupting the rhythm of my humming and dancing, but his warm gaze quickly put me at ease.

Hey there, Amanda, he greeted me with a chuckle, setting down his glass of water. Looks like you’re in high spirits this morning.

Blushing slightly at being caught in my impromptu kitchen dance, I couldn’t help but return his smile. Yeah, just getting things ready for breakfast. Didn’t expect to run into you like that!

David’s laughter filled the room, a comforting melody that mingled with the sounds of sizzling pancakes and clinking utensils.

Well, it’s not every day I see such a talented chef in action, he teased, gesturing toward the array of ingredients scattered across the counter.

Feeling a surge of pride at his compliment, I flashed him a grateful smile. Thanks, David. I wanted to surprise Mom with breakfast for my birthday.

His expression softened a hint of warmth glimmering in his eyes. That’s thoughtful of you, Amanda. I’m sure she’ll love it.

Then I heard my mother emerge from her room with a small box in her hands.
