‘FAMILY meeting. My place. Friday, 6pm sharp!” Anna paused before pressing the send button. She added a kiss and a smiley face to the end of the message and sent it via the family WhatsApp group, aptly named What Family.
Before she had a chance to put her phone back in her bag the responses started to come in.
“What’s this about?”
“Not sure I’m free.”
“Anything wrong?”
Anna and her siblings had once been so close. Especially when their children were growing up. Their kids had been best friends as well as cousins, but with age came different directions.
Communication between Anna and her brothers and sister dwindled. Birthday cards had been replaced with gifs or emojis, and virtual Christmas cards were all the rage.
She tapped out her reply.
