Chapter 1: What Is Mindset
The mind is a powerful tool that ultimately shapes who you are as a person. This thinking pattern or frame of mind, also known as a mindset, influences how you make sense of the world and yourself.
In other words, a mindset is a collection of beliefs and thoughts that influence how you approach any given situation. It largely shapes your personality, assisting you in determining what is happening around you and what you should do about it.
How Mindsets are Formed
People have thought, acted, and performed differently since the beginning of time. Common sense dictates that these differences are primarily caused by differences in one's background, learning experiences, and training. Additionally, research supports this view.
While experiences, backgrounds, and training are all external factors, internal factors such as genetic makeup also play a role.
Most experts today agree that developing a mindset involves a combination of these two aspects. For example, while everyone inherits a unique set of genetics, their experiences, training, and personal efforts carry them the rest of the way.
