About the Author
This book is dedicated to the glory of the Lord and to my wife Pam. God brought her over fifty-two years ago in my life. She has sacrificed, enabled me, and ministered with me for the glory of God. I thank God for her. May the Lord God truly receive my thanks.
Introduction
Mine eyes have seen the Glory of the coming of the Lord
is the familiar first line of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. It was written by Julia Ward Howe in 1861. Howe, being an Abolitionist, wrote this song, and it became a marching song for the Union Army in our Civil War. In verse two, she wrote, I have seen Him in the watch-fires.
Then, in verse four, she wrote, In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea with a Glory in His being that transfigures you and me.
More than just a familiar nationalistic song, this hymn talks of seeing god's glory and how this Glory can be a powerful force in our lives. It raises an important question. Do you see the Lord's glory in your life? Do you want to see His Glory at work all around you?
My hope and prayer, my feeble effort here of writing, may help see better His Glory. Jesus talks of the blessing of seeing this Glory in Matthew 13:13 when He said.
Therefore I speak to them in parables because while seeing they do not see and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
Jesus wasn't talking about Gentile unbelievers but about believing Jews of His time. They somehow didn't grasp the workings of God, for their lack of sight hindered them. In the following verse, He cites the prophet Isaiah, who told of the reason for this condition. He said,
In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, You will keep on hearing, but will not understand, You will keep on seeing, but will not perceive: for the heart of This people has become dull. With their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed Their eyes.
(Matthew 13:14)
Quite an indictment, isn't it? It was true then, and the same could be said of many believers today. It is obvious that Jesus wants us to see and understand the Glory of God in this world and to understand His Word and the will God has for each of us. Paul, an avid Jewish believer, needed to see God's glory. It began with his conversion. But that was only the beginning of Paul. We need to see more clearly the glory of God so that we may be transfigured and changed. As with Paul, it isn't a one-time event.
But we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the
