About this ebook

Biblical prophecy is not simply insight into future events. It is more than that, for it reveals God plan and purpose, and imparts an understanding of His purpose to humanity. In this book, Cushroo Bejon explores the significance of the prophetic scriptures in relation to the birth, life, crucifixion, resurrection and exaltation of Jesus. His fi

This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations. For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back? (Isa 14:26–27)

    Author’s Preface

Following the publication of my first book, The Word of God in our Hands (see Bibliography), I have been motivated to turn my attention to the subject of prophecy in the life of the Messiah. In undertaking this task, I am aware that I am neither an expert in medicine, history, archaeology, linguistics or mathematics, all of which are embraced by my subject. I often find that commentators and scholars prefer to place their speculations and interpretations above the plain truth of the Word of God. You will find some references to this practice further on in this book whereas, as indicated in my previous book, I am firmly convinced that the Word of God as we have it today is an accurate and reliable copy of God’s words revealed to men. But I am greatly encouraged by the words that Jesus uttered, even after many had rejected Him, I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. (Matt 11:25).

This truth is reinforced by recalling that when Jesus started His work on Earth, He chose fishermen, not the learned rabbis He had met in the temple at Jerusalem, and He taught them the secret of the kingdom of God (Mark 4:11). So I look to Him, my Heavenly Father, to teach me what I need to know about Him (John 14:26) and to enable me to distinguish between what is from God and what is from man. Since the world in its fallen wisdom has rejected God (1 Cor 1:22), God has declared, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate. (1 Cor 1:19). The world even denies God the title of Creator, let alone recognising Him as Redeemer and Lord, whereas we are not of the world any more than our Lord is (John 15:19).

I need to indicate clearly that I am not disparaging the value of education, having been involved in it for many years and recognising that it is necessary to understand differing viewpoints. However, an educational qualification is not in itself an entitlement to teach in biblical matters. It follows, therefore, that it is a mistake to think that biblical exposition which is done by people having academic qualifications is of necessity biblically correct.

Complicated expositions, relying on man’s wisdom and involving speculation to make explanations more plausible and in line with current thinking can never be preferable to the plain truth of God’s Word, however unpalatable the result may appear. By God’s grace and goodness to me, I have been a Christian reading God’s Word for more than 70 years, and I have found the Word of God to be entirely trustworthy. The Scripture itself encourages us to test everything, and hold on to what is good (1 Thess 5:21). In the words of Sir Frederick Kenyon, the time has come "to shake off the excessive criticism characteristic of much biblical scholarship in the latter half of the 19th century, and to restore
