The Journey Begins - Ahmed zaid
The lecture was boring. Rachel, a beautiful dark-haired girl with wide blue eyes, small lips, a lovely hooked nose, and long black hair, sat there, her eyes half-closed from boredom. She glanced at her watch, wishing time would pass quickly so she could attend the lecture on Egyptology, her passion since childhood. The soaring pyramids, mummies, mummification techniques, and all the things Dr. Steve, the Egyptologist, told them about fascinated her. She pondered how his lectures heavily relied on imagining the lives of the pharaohs, their beliefs, their craftsmanship, and how they transcended time by creating things that still existed today. Some of the mummies they recently found seemed as if they had just died yesterday from the precision of the mummification.
The bell signaling the end of the lecture snapped her out of her thoughts. She quickly gathered her things and headed out.

On the way, she adjusted her large glasses and then looked up to see John, the most handsome guy on campus and the star of the football team. She took off her glasses and began straightening her clothes, trying to fix her hair in hopes of at least getting a glance of admiration to satisfy the inner vanity within her. However, he was already surrounded by many admirers, so when she passed by, he didn't pay her any mind. She sighed with disappointment as she walked past him and heard a giggling sound behind her. She turned to find Allison draped over John. How she loathed Allison—she was indeed beautiful but also very vulgar. Rachel smiled and said sarcastically, Maybe all of them.
Continuing on her way, she found Parker, her fellow Egyptology enthusiast, with his brown eyes, brown hair, and average build that wasn't as athletic as Rachel preferred. He rushed over to her.
Parker: Hey, Rachel, how are you today? I hope you're doing well.
Rachel replied coldly.
Rachel: Hi, Parker. I'm fine, thank you.
Parker tried to prolong the conversation.
Parker: Yeah, it was a long day, wasn't it?
Rachel tried to escape the conversation, pretending she didn't hear him, and hastened her pace, but he caught up and asked her.
Parker: Have you heard the rumors?
The question piqued her curiosity, so she asked.
Rachel: What rumors are you talking about?
Parker smiled as he said.
Parker: You don't know, do you?
Rachel: Don't be silly.
Parker: Well, after the last lecture, there's a rumor that Dr. Steve will select three students from our university to accompany him on the excavation trip to Egypt.
Rachel opened her mouth in astonishment.
Rachel: Is that true?
Parker shrugged.
Parker: I don't know. Like I said, it's just rumors.
Rachel narrowed
