Unexpected doors that enrich our lives - Manije Grayli
Suffering and trials
What lies behind our suffering, why should we suffer so much?
Times of joy are powerful. They give us energy and strength to keep going and achieve our goals, which is also good.
However, if we only experience good times, the treasures hidden within us remain undiscovered and undeveloped.
These treasures are of great importance for our spiritual and personal development, as they help us to attain human perfection and bear fruit.
"Some are asleep and must be awakened. Some are
suffering and must be healed. Some are like immature
children and must be educated. But all are
recipients of the generosity and gifts of God."
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
The properties, virtues or strengths that each of us possesses can only be catapulted out through suffering and in times of difficulty.
Only then do we learn to know ourselves better.
Who am I, what is my calling, what can I do, where do I want to go...?
"We will emerge from within ourselves, actively reflect, search for ways and possibilities, and ask about the meaning of life.
Just like I asked myself back then, what is the meaning of life, does it have any meaning at all?
Why do I have to suffer so much?
Because it wasn’t just one problem, there were always more popping up!
Just as I had overcome one, a new one came along.
Sometimes, you only have one problem, sometimes several at the same time, that you feel like they could break your neck!
I was already aware that life is not a bed of roses, as we will always be confronted with it in our earthly life.
But I hadn’t wished for so much of it…
I had had enough of everything, I said to God, I can’t take it anymore, I don’t feel like it anymore!
Some problems take a lot of time and patience to be solved, you chew on them for a long time.
It’s a lifelong process.
Earthly life is like a school, you have to pass several exams to be able to move forward.
Thank God, I was aware that suffering, strokes of fate..., are not a punishment from God, but I only became consciously aware of it as a blessing, an act of awakening, and a signpost later on!
In my younger years, I neither wanted nor could accept, let alone be thankful for, what I read in the scriptures!
"Be generous in prosperity,
and thankful in adversity."
Bahá’í scriptures
But years later, I understood that these are life experiences that we must make and solve the problems ourselves.
Each new experience is redefined, and thus new paths must be sought that we must take.
And also that our earthly life is a blessing for us.
Since then, I have been and am very thankful that I exist.
As I wrote, I had no desire to continue, it’s all too much for me, I thought.
I wanted nothing from life and regretted being born.
But life wanted it from me!
"One rarely knows what happiness is, but one
usually knows what happiness was."
Oriental Wisdom
Here on Earth through our body, it is easier for us to master our learning task, to develop our selves spiritually, to clean/polish the mirror of our soul from earthly dust through our good deeds, to bring out and reflect the divine light within us, to make progress and to perfect ourselves, which we need for our next
