    Chapter 1: Introduction

Swadarshan chakradhari is a Hindi word which means ‘spinner of the discus of self-realisation’. BKs (members of the Brahma Kumaris) contemplate on the BK knowledge to become a swadarshan chakradhari. They experience happiness when they are in the stage where they are a swadarshan chakradhari. You can also become a swadarshan chakradhari and experience happiness through contemplating on the knowledge which is in this book.

Swa means ‘self’, darshan means ‘vision’ and chakradhari means ‘holder of discus’. The ‘discus’ is the Cycle of Time. Therefore, ‘swadarshan chakradhari’ refers to one who keeps a vision on who one really is as one contemplates on the discus/chakra (Cycle of Time). The swadarshan chakra (discus of self-realisation) is the chakra (Cycle of Time), which is provided by God, for seeing how the self (as the soul) takes births through each cyclic Cycle of Time. To properly understand what ‘spinning the discus of self-realisation’ is all about, you must be first introduced to the basic BK knowledge, for example, you have to be given knowledge about:

    1. the soul.

    2. God and how He helps us.

    3. the three worlds (Soul World, Angelic World and Corporeal World).

    4. how time flows in a cyclic manner. This knowledge on the Cycle of Time (‘Cycle’ hereafter) includes how we take 84 births and 5 forms during each Cycle.

When you know the above knowledge, you will know what to contemplate on when you are told to spin the discus. So I am going to explain the above basic BK knowledge first, before giving further explanations on how to become a swadarshan chakradhari.

You are actually the soul (a point of metaphysical white light) who is in your body; you are not your body. You use your body to live your life. Your original qualities (qualities of the soul) are the virtues and powers. The virtues are:

    1. pure energies.

    2. good qualities such as happiness, peace, love, etc.

Virtues are experienced as emotions. When the virtues are in an emerged state, you feel happy, peaceful etc.

The vices, on the other hand, are impure energies; they are not your original qualities. Your pure energies transform into these impure energies as you indulge in the vices. The vices include anger, greed, arrogance etc. You get spiritually weaker as you indulge in the vices. The vices make sure that you are unhappy. When you are a swadarshan chakradhari, the vices are burnt to transform back into the virtues. Hence, you experience happiness instead of unhappiness.

The ‘pure soul who is using the body to make spiritual efforts’ is the swadarshan chakradhari. The ‘soul who is using the body to contemplate on the BK knowledge for spiritual effort making’ is a Brahmin. Since the body is needed for spiritual effort making, the Brahmin is the swadarshan chakradhari when the Brahmin is in a high spiritual stage due to making spiritual efforts. God enables the Brahmin to become a swadarshan chakradhari, when the Brahmin is contemplating on the knowledge that has been given by God. You will understand this better as you keep reading the book. What is important to note now is that it is God who enables us to become a swadarshan chakradhari.

God (the Supreme Soul) is also a metaphysical Point of Light. God is the Supreme Soul (Paramatma) because:

    1. He is Supreme among all souls.

    2. He has the spiritual strength of an Ocean while we are like a drop in comparison. God is the Ocean of Happiness, Ocean of Bliss, Ocean of Love, Ocean of Peace etc since He is the Ocean of all Divine Virtues and Powers.

BKs practice the meditation called Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga to absorb divine virtues and powers from God, through their link to God. They establish this link to God through contemplating on the BK knowledge. In this book, there are explanations based on the BK knowledge. Thus, when you spin (contemplate on) the knowledge in this book, you get linked to God. Through this link, you will be able to absorb God’s Divine Virtues and Powers to:

    1. empower yourself so that you experience happiness, peace, etc.

    2. transform yourself into the divine state.

Since you are exposed to God’s powerful vibrations through your link:

    1. all impure energies are transformed back into the pure, divine state.

    2. the virtues and powers of the soul (which are in the ordinary state) are transformed into powerful, divine virtues and powers.

    3. you become a swadarshan chakradhari.

Therefore, you experience happiness. You have to spin the Cycle of Time so as to be a swadarshan chakradhari, i.e. you have to contemplate on what happens to you (the soul) as time flows in each Cycle. While you are a swadarshan chakradhari, you (the soul) are transformed into the pure, powerful, divine state. Hence, you can only experience happiness.

In His murlis (God’s messages/teachings which were spoken in the Brahma Kumaris), God has provided the knowledge on how time flows in a cyclic manner. He has explained that each Cycle of Time is divided up into the following five Ages:

    1. Satyuga (Golden Age),

    2. Tretayuga (Silver Age),

    3. Dwapuryuga (Copper Age),

    4. Kaliyuga (Iron Age), and

    5. Sangamyuga (Confluence Age).

The knowledge that has been given by God, on the Cycle etc, are briefly explained after this. You are a swadarshan chakradhari when you spin the following knowledge. However, do not worry if you have not attained the powerful stage where you are a swadarshan chakradhari. You will slowly attain a powerful stage as you keep contemplating on the following knowledge and all the knowledge in the chapters of this book.

God has informed us that, during the Golden and Silver Ages (first half cycle), the people live as deities in a heavenly world. Deities (such as Krishna and Rama) are divine beings who only experience happiness. Krishna lives during the Golden Age and Rama lives during the Silver Age. The souls, who take births in the first half cycle, are referred to as deity souls.

At the end of the Silver Age, the world transforms into the ordinary world. Human beings are not deities during the Copper and Iron Ages (during the second half cycle) because they are in the ordinary state. People can experience unhappiness when they are in the ordinary state.

Around the end of the Iron Age, God comes into the Corporeal World to bring in the Confluence Age. God transforms the world into the Golden Aged divine world again, through the Confluence Age. Therefore, we experience happiness again. The Confluence Age overlaps:

    1. the ending phase of Iron Age, and

    2. the beginning phase of the Golden Age.

The knowledge given by God, on the Cycle, explains how:

    1. you were satopradhan during the Golden Age. The satopradhan state is a powerful, pure, divine state. You can only experience happiness while you are satopradhan. You enjoy this wonderful satopradhan state during the 8 births which you take during the Golden Age.

    2. you were in the sato state during the Silver Age. The sato state is also a pure, divine state but it is not as powerful as the satopradhan state. However, you still experience happiness only during this sato state. You enjoy the pure sato state during the 12 births which you take during the Silver Age.

    3. you were in the rajo/rajopradhan state during the Copper Age. The rajo state is the ordinary state where you can indulge in the vices. When you indulge in the vices, you become unhappy and impurities accumulate within you (the soul). Impurities keep accumulating within you (the soul) during the 21 births which you take during the Copper Age.

    4. you were in the tamo/tamopradhan state during Kaliyuga. The tamo state is the state where you are terribly impure due to having indulged in the vices from the beginning of the Copper Age. You take 42 births during Kaliyuga, and you are in the most impure state during your final birth at the end of Kaliyuga; you might find it very difficult to experience happiness while you are in this most impure state.

    5. you are becoming satopradhan once again, now, during the Confluence Age. You take one birth (your 84th spiritual/Brahmin birth in the Cycle) during the Confluence Age. During this final birth, you make spiritual efforts to become happy again.

When you initially start spinning (contemplating on) the BK knowledge:

    1. you are brought into the Confluence Age. You (the soul) are no longer in the Kaliyug world, after this.

    2. you get linked to God through the contemplation.

You take your spiritual, Brahmin birth when you are brought into the Confluence Age. Thereafter, spinning the knowledge will keep you in the Confluence Age, i.e. you remain a Brahmin.

While you spin the knowledge, have faith that you are in the Confluence Age now (and that you were in the Confluence Age at the end of each Cycle); since this involves spinning the Cycle, it helps you
