About this ebook
This work explores the author's encounters with the times he almost died. A further reflection on these events, in which we are on the razor's edge between life and death, has something to teach us. The author invites you to explore the meaning of your own life's relationship to death, as suggested in the title, "The Times We Almost Died." It promises to bring unexpected discoveries of the times we companioned with death, and how they might become life-giving.
Michael A. Susko
Ever since his youth, the author read science fiction, and his imagination has often pictured future worlds. In this work, he combines dream analysis and the study of empire to show how ancient rites might combine with scientific means to make for a totalitarian world. In this re-envisioning of 1984 world, the year 2084 is fast coming upon us.

Introduction
This reflection is based on recounting personal times I almost died. They are when one brushes with death, when we sense a close call.
Those times tend to stand out in one’s mind and might flash into your consciousness unbidden, for they have a unique effect of standing on the edge between this world and whatever is on the other side. A philosopher is said to meditate on death and dying. We know as well that many religious and spiritual traditions engage this subject, often in an attempt to offer rebirth. There is a hope that focusing on this type of experience, we may gain unexpected insight. Here we will see what such near misses
summon within me as reflections.
You may have noted that this work uses the phrase We almost died.
I propose that one’s times of near death have been experienced by others in various ways, and that there is a we quality to this experience. Thus, this work is an invitation for the reader to pause to consider his or her own near-death experiences and see what they
