    Chapter

    One

There are those out there who can see what others cannot see, hear what others cannot hear, and feel what others cannot feel. They walk amongst us with a better understanding of the world than most people. They often go unnoticed by the majority of others, but they are always there, watching, listening, and keeping record of events happening in history throughout the world. They see the beauty in the world that others miss out on, and they hear the hidden messages in the sounds and movements of everyday life. They feel the emotions of others as if they were their own.

There are those who use their gifts for their own greed, power, and lust, they proudly call themselves the Corrupts. And then there are others sworn into secrecy and are now in hiding, they are individuals that will use their abilities to help humanity in times of need. They are known as the Seers. They can see light in the dark and will bring hope to the world when you least expect it.

Some say they are gifted with a sixth sense, able to see things that others cannot. They are definitely a rare breed, and their abilities are both a blessing and a curse. Some Seers are born with their abilities, while others develop them later in life. The ones who develop them later in life may not know who they are and what they are cable of. Regardless of how they come to have these abilities, Seers are often misunderstood and feared by those who do not understand their world. Know that true Seers will only use their abilities for good as they are sworn to be the beacon of hope for the world.

My name is Kyle Wynn, and this is how I crossed over into the world of the Seers. I was a bright adult college kid ready to finish up my seminarian years and was only two years shy of being ordained a Roman Catholic priest under the religious order of the Society of the Divine Word. I had never been the type to believe in the supernatural. I was a logical, practical, rational person who only believed in what he could see and touch. With only one exception, and that was what my parents and those within the Roman Catholic faith had told me or shared about their own experience. But my entire world had changed one day during my senior college year.

Though practical as I am on the outside, I had always had dreams of the seemingly impossible when I lay my head down at night. And physically, I had always suffered from all sorts of illnesses since I was little. I nearly died thrice, and my parents had recounted the first two incidents to me. Once from a sickness I had caught when I was very young, around my early toddler years, where I had excitedly just begun to walk for the very first time and played along the beach shores of a foreign country my family had vacationed at on the opposite side of the world from the United States, where I was declared dead by many doctors at the time. My mother and her unflinching faith and persistence had brought me to as many doctors as she could find in that vicinity, although there were few at the time. I was fortunate to have met a doctor who had kept up with his studies of modern medicine and as a result, I survived and lived to tell the tale. Looking back now, it was then that I began to have visions of the future and I would dream and see things happening before they did. I tried telling my family about it, but they just thought I was crazy. I was always getting into trouble because I would say things that would come true, but no one would believe me. I gave up on sharing what I saw and began to keep silent.

A second time, a few years later, when I had been weaned off diapers, I was a bit too cute that the older little neighbor girls within the apartment complex had fought each other just to see who would carry me next. But alas, most little girls at that age with short attention spans were not too responsible in the babysitting department, and so when their little friend had brought over her teatime party kit, they all jumped to their next excitement and promptly left me to my musing. So, I ventured and explored throughout this fresh territory that I had not called home and saw ahead of me the next best thing that entertained me just as the girls had with their teatime party. I tottered and doddered through the neighbor’s house and eyed my next brain candy. Oh, how fun I had thought it would be for me to climb up on that big ol’chair, then from that massive chair climb up on to that high platform right next to where that clear container was with all that clear floating wavy stuff and look... even a little squiggly moving thing with nice orange shiny skin moving its head while opening and closing its mouth. As I was determined to make it to my destination, little did I know a different surprise was waiting for me at the end. As I climbed and reached to grab something to give me a solid holding on to that platform, only then did I realize there was nothing beyond that point. It was an open window without any screen! Oh! So, I took a tumble, missed what I now know as a glass fishbowl, and fell out of the second story apartment window on Ashland Ave in Chicago, IL. I then discovered what was truly beyond that window, a new yet much larger world than my body can manage. Everything blanked out for me pretty much right after.

My mother to this day remembered, full of tears, like every other loving mother who would want to see their child’s happy face once more when coming face to face with the fear that their own child may have died. She took me into her arms to wipe away the blood from my face...

I had opened my eyes in a daze as she startlingly stared, only to see me gently smile before I passed out completely. It actually was a miracle. After the full examination and X-rays, I was released home with no broken bones nor concussion.

At home, I lay to rest immobile because of the ache and pain any movement would have caused. Yet another blessing was bestowed on the world, a miracle called Bengay. You may chuckle, but I can attest, oh, how it was rubbed all over my body and allowed me, a child at the time, to rambunctiously run, move, and live again because of the burning sensation.

Ah, which brings me to the third time when I had briefly yet abruptly crossed over into the world of the Seers, only to be brushed by a truly vivid touch of death.

It was during my college years in the seminary, trying to push myself beyond swimming the required laps. And would you believe it if I told you? It was for a lifeguard certification. You see, I was operating on an empty stomach from morning to evening, hoping to get my fill at the end of the day during dinner time, since I had a terribly busy class schedule that day. To all our surprise, we the complete class were mandated to push an added ten laps on top of our usual fifty laps of the Olympic-size pool within record time and the carrying of a 10 lbs. brick weight above your head for a lengthy duration as we swam. Near the end with no energy left, my limbs were failing me. I gulped in a lot of pool water before making my way to the finish line. Sluggishly dragging myself to the locker room, thinking that I had just survived a near-drowning experience, I laughed as I walked into the showers only to realize that I had just crossed the threshold of life and death.

As I walked to the shower stall from my locker, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror on the wall between the showers and lockers. I looked ghoulish; like a walking-dead corpse as if my blood had been drained from me. Stepping into the shower stall, I became cold and started to shiver all over. Because of this, I turned the shower knob a notch hotter. As I got colder, I turned the knob another notch warmer and warmer until it was scorching hot. Only then did it dawn on me that I may be suffering from hypothermia.

The heat within my body faded very quickly with only the sharp pang of coldness engulfing me. I was the only person left in the shower stalls as I looked at my hands and legs stiffening. In dire need, I tried yelling out for help to no avail, only to have my tongue as stiff as a lifeless piece of meat in my mouth as my jaws locked in position. I fell to the ground and naturally wrapped myself in the fetus position to keep as much heat in me as I could. Darkness drew over me. My vision of the shower stall walls, and floor faded, giving way to dark nothingness. Blood had stopped rushing to my eyes and other parts of my body. I shivered less and less as my body became numb-er increasingly. I heard my heartbeat slowing down… Ka-thump, ka-thump, ka-thump, ka- thuuump, kaa-thuuump, kaaa- thuuuump… Until it stopped completely.

I lost movement in my limbs and any sense of the world around me. It was as if I was somewhere but nowhere at the same time. It was a place, an abyss of darkness, that felt timeless. My whole life flashed before me, and I realized I was going to die. At least I thought I did. Just the mere thought that I was going to lose my life echoed endlessly through that chasm.

As I had always believed in the existence of a higher power, a Divine Being, God. I had recalled living my life in a way that is of service to both God and my fellow human beings. I mentally shouted out into the unknown; directing it toward God, whom I believe was the endless source of all.

"You can take me to the netherworld, underworld, heaven, or hell or whatever you want to call it, even wipe me from existence to the point where I have never existed in anyone’s life or mind. Now that death is even knocking at my door, there is only one thing I ask of you. And that is to remember and never forget that I believed in you while I was alive. I lived my life for you, and nothing is going to make me not believe in you. Even in nonexistence, I will still believe in you..."

Since I had no way of tracking the fleeting time, I sat in the darkness for what felt like an eternity, unsure of what my fate would be. Time seemed to stand still as I listened and waited for any sign of what might happen next with the assumption that I was to die and be taken away somewhere. However, after some time, a warm feeling of heat somewhere within the center of my body started to grow. As the heat from within continued to spread outward, I was actually able to look down within and see a dim glowing light that slowly expanded brighter and brighter. I then sensed a massive force from the heat which echoed through the darkness and shook me violently. The echoing thoughts of the word "Back!" rang in my ears, jolting my limbs.

Waking up, I felt as if I had just fallen as I hit the ground hard. As the heat grew within me, I saw a dim light along with the heat spread throughout my veins. My heart started up,
