    Introduction

Welcome to The Serenity Journal and congratulations for choosing to embark on this journey of self-discovery and habit building. The Serenity Journal is a book of 365 daily journal prompts, a daily gratitude practice, and 12 monthly activities to help you find more peace and serenity. This book is ideal for individuals doing step work in a 12-step recovery program, but anyone can benefit from the daily practice and introspection this book provides.

Serenity is the state of being calm and untroubled, even when surrounded by chaos. To get there, you must learn to quiet your mind, set healthy boundaries, embrace gratitude, practice compassion, acknowledge your role in the turmoil, and accept responsibility for making some changes.

Journaling has been shown to improve mental health and assist with healing and growth. Recognizing and expressing gratitude is a proven method for rewiring your brain for happiness and success. Developing daily habits has many health benefits as well. This book of prompts  provides an approachable method for building a habit of daily journaling by offering one simple but thoughtful question each day and a reminder to list three things you are grateful for. All you need is a notebook, a pen, and a willingness to participate!

As with many things in life, you get out what you are willing to put in. While some of the questions in The Serenity Journal could be answered with a simple yes or no, the intention is for you to explore the topic and provide a thoughtful response. There are no exact duplications of the questions, but some may seem familiar.

I invite you to keep an open mind. If you have been struggling to overcome challenges on your own, it is important to consider that placing your faith in something outside of yourself could help. This could be a higher power: God, Allah, Jehovah, Buddha. It might be Mother Nature, Earth, the Universe. It could be the concept of family, self-will, or ego. It is whatever works for you. If you find yourself struggling to get past the language used in some of the journal prompts, feel free to substitute words of your own,
