Three Story Method - J. Thorn

    Introduction

Every single one of us has a superpower. Every single one of us can do something that comes so naturally to us we don’t even think about it. Maybe you even think everyone knows how to do it. And yes, maybe others can, but it would take them ten hours to your two hours.

So, what’s your superpower? What’s that thing that you fly through while others pull out their hair?

Once you’ve determined what your superpower is—bonus—you’ve also identified your market, because now you know what problem needs to be solved and who will buy your book to get the answer.

If you are a writer, you already know that there is no shortage of book ideas–and you have lots of them. You also know that not every idea you have is good. (Maybe that goes without saying.)

Instead of taking one of those ideas, writing the book, and then seeing if readers want it, wouldn’t it be great if we did it the other way around? What if we knew from the beginning that readers wanted our books before we even wrote them?

    There is a way.

    It involves:

identifying a problem that people have,

matching that with a solution that you have, and

    teaching it first.

And a tremendous bonus to writing your book this way is that while you are teaching it, you are transcribing it. And that means you’ve already written your rough draft. (More on that later.)

But wait. Maybe you aren’t a teacher. Or, you don’t know how to teach. Or, the thought of teaching scares you. Here’s a secret. Teaching can be as simple as sitting down next to a friend in a coffee shop and explaining something, or showing your partner how to prune roses, or demonstrating the correct way to upload your manuscript to an online retailer. When you explain yourself, it clarifies your own process, and forces you to think about breaking it down in the most simple and efficient way.

Writing your book by teaching it first works best if you can teach every unit of your How To book, whether it’s a chapter or sub-heading or section. You can find out if there are any issues with your idea or if you've missed any steps by interacting with a live person who will give you feedback and ask questions in real-time.

In this book, you will learn:

    the secrets of learning,

    the secrets of teaching,

how to use avatars to determine how you and your readers fit together,

the five ways to inspire and motivate,

how to use teaching to write your book (instead of the other way around),

how to design your table of contents meaningfully, and

how to structure your How To book using a unique rubric tool.

We’ll take you every step of the way. It’ll be fun. Let’s get started.
