Chapter 1: The Bradley Tank

The warm summer air hung heavy around Brad as he sat on the porch, the sounds of crickets and gentle breeze providing calming background noise. Brad had turned 14 that day. But, he did not know how to feel. It was his birthday, shouldn’t he be happy? He questioned. He sat with his elbows resting on his knees, staring out into the darkening suburban street. He had always felt out of place, never quite fitting into the mold of his peers. However, tonight those feelings were stirring inside him with an intensifying force. Everything around him seemed static as if the world was waiting for something to happen. Earlier that day, Brad felt a strange sensation coursing through his veins, almost as if he was coming alive. With the newfound energy, he lifted his gaze to the sky, only to see bolts of lightning dancing above him. He had no idea what was going on.

As Brad sat lost in thought, his father, whose name was Rock, walked outside and joined him on the porch. They sat in silence for a few moments, before his father finally spoke up.

Brad, my son, there's something very important that I need to share with you about my time in the military. You know that your name is a tribute to the Bradley Tank that I drove in when I was in the Army. During one of our missions, the enemy fired an RPG at the Bradley Tank I was driving. I swerved to avoid the RPG and it hit a nearby chemical plant. Releasing a substance onto the tank, that I found out later was called Z24. On top of that, when I swerved, I hit a telephone pole and the powerline landed on top of my tank, and that is apparently what activated the Z24. This incident left me with extraordinary abilities that were passed down to you at birth. I want you to know that no matter what, your father will always be here to support and love you. Rock said sincerely.

I love you too Dad, Brad said lovingly.

I understand that growing up in a broken home has not been easy. I believe that you are destined for something more. You must learn how to control your abilities and use them wisely. I will be here to guide and help you along the way. Remember to keep your identity a secret and never give up on your journey to becoming the hero you were meant to be. Rock said to his son.

I promise Dad Brad agreed.

I know this may come as a shock, but I believe it's time for you to embrace your true potential. Rock’s tone becomes more serious.

You've inherited incredible abilities from me, and it's up to you to use them for good. I know that this may be overwhelming for you, but I want you to know that it's okay to be different. You're not alone in this journey.

Brad sat in stunned silence, his mind racing to process the information his father had just revealed. He had always felt different like he didn't quite fit in with his peers. Brad's mind buzzed with questions about his newfound abilities and how to control them. But he knew that he couldn't rush into things blindly. He needed guidance and training.

Dad, Brad began tentatively. How do I learn to control these abilities? And who else knows about this?

His father's expression turned serious as he considered Brad's questions.

Controlling your abilities will take time and practice, he explained. "I can teach you what I know, but we may need to seek out others who have similar experiences. As for as who else knows, only our immediate family. And they would never tell anyone. It's important to keep your identity a secret. Some would seek to exploit your powers or use them for their gain. We must be cautious and selective
