Preface
Why this book about boys? Boys are our country’s future. Boys are our future leaders. Boys are valued, needed, loved, and are wonderful people. Therefore, it is important to help the boys grow and develop into a healthy man.
As the decades have come and gone, being a boy in the 1960s in the United States of America, during the Space Race, and the Apollo 11 moon landing, much came my way to learn. Growing into a man, and now an elderly man, the years and decades have taught many things. This included good instructors, teachers, mentors, friends, and professors. My sweetheart Susan and I, having two sons and three daughters, helped in my understanding that boys learn quickly. They learn quite fast now days. Contemplating all this, it is clear that boys learn, and the boys learn quickly. Therefore, the boys need healthy attention, to learn healthy good things in their life, as they grow into a man.
This book is written for parents, teachers, educators, caretakers, and people that help bring up boys. Our country needs good healthy men to help work, and help serve our country, including our people. The boys that learn are where these good men arrive from. May our God Almighty bless you all in rearing up boys, and also girls, to help serve our people.
Note: When the author states in the book below, A boy will do ...
, or Boys can be ...
, or a similar one hundred percent (100%) all-encompassing statement, the author found through life living experiences with boys, that the statement is true, at a high percentage rate. The author is stating that there is a very high probability (i.e., extremely high chance), that boys would do this item. In life, there is usually an exception, and that exception would be a small percentage. Therefore, for simplicity in writing the book, including ease of reading, the author uses the all-encompassing 100% statements in the book information below, A boy will do ...
, or Boys can be ...
, etceteras. Simply understand, that it is inherent, that there could be low percentage of exceptions. Every boy is different and diverse, in their unique, personality ways.
Chapter 1
What You Teach a Boy
WHAT YOU TEACH A YOUNG boy, is what that young boy will do. It is important to look for the talent (or talents) that God Almighty has given the boy, and to help the boy develop their talent. Teach a boy something good, and the boy will do that good thing. Teach a boy something bad (see the newspaper), and the boy will do something bad.
Additionally, what a boy is taught (e.g., from friends, the internet, social media, etceteras), that is what the boy will do. It is important to be actively involved, in a healthy way (i.e., with respect, caring, love, and kindness, etceteras), with your boy, and what he is being taught. Healthy boys grow-up to be healthy men.
Boys learn, and do, and grow physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and sexually. It is critical, and extremely important, that the boys grow in the right direction. Sometimes the growth takes a decade, or two decades (e.g., physically, and sexually). Your boy requires that other people respect them fully regarding their sexual growth (i.e., correctly teach, educate, provide age-appropriate learning, provide full respect, provide healthy esteem, provide healthy regard, show consideration for your boy, acknowledge and accept their healthy growth). Yet, that growth, even though it is extremely slow, must be in the right direction. Then, when the boy has grown into a man, he is healthy in all aspects, and a benefit to himself, his family, community, state, country, and even the world. Help the boys grow in the right direction, even if the boys grow slowly.
Additionally, regarding social media, and perhaps your boy wants a smartphone, recommend that you get a smartphone with limited social media. One example is the Gabb smartphone. That way, your boy can grow-up healthy.
A search engine on the internet, for Surgeon General Social Media Youth Mental Health
will provide current information for you. The Surgeon General providing their statement about social media (e.g., smartphone with internet access), shows the crisis and predicament our country, and world, is in currently. Yet, there are good people helping.
IF YOUR BOY GETS WOUND-up in detrimental social media, he can get away from it, and heal-up.
In reading, I came across this (it’s paraphrased), You’ve got to get out of that tunnel. You don’t need to stay in that tunnel.
, regarding abusive items. Your boy can get out of that tunnel of harmful social media, and get above ground. When above ground, your boy can see the good things in the world, the way they really are. A good friendship, healthy family member interactions, a fun friendship, hope for the future, and a bright today for them to live and enjoy.
There are smartphone companies working to provide a smartphone for the children (boys and girls) and youth, that are healthy for them. One company is Gabb. A search engine on the internet, for Healthy Smartphone for Children
will provide current information for you.
The Gabb company explains that, Kids are in digital danger
. So, the Gabb company created a smartphone to help the boys, and girls, in this area.
MAY OUR GOD ALMIGHTY bless you, and your boys, in your efforts to help your boys grow into healthy men, in all aspects.

Approximately 1 in 6 Boys are Sexually Abused; Let’s Protect the Boys
THE VALID NUMBERS. The valid numbers are clearly set forth by all the studies. Unfortunately, many boys (any age) are growing up being sexually abused. The author of this book was one of those boys, and at age 6 was sexually abused (for approximately a year or more) by his age 16 teenage brother. See the book Growing Up An American Boy! For Counselors Only, by John Washburn (ISBN 979-8201075231 paperback, ISBN 979-8201975371 e-book). Therefore, with the author’s knowledge base, including years of counseling, this book is provided to help assist parents (or guardians) to rear-up healthy boys.
PERCENT OF POPULATION Where There Is Child Abuse.
A recommendation would be to lookup the current numbers on child abuse (e.g., on the computer internet).
Various government statistics, and other reliable sources, showed approximately 1 in 20 boys are sexually abused, to the number of 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused. The actual number is difficult to obtain accurately. Yet, it is clear that young boys are being sexually abused, and they need help, assistance, respect, healthy love, and support, to heal, and lead a healthy life.
