    NIKES.

    Chapter 1.

    Amy left some clothes on a chair outside of the bathroom for me. They were a little big, but I liked my clothes that way. I went down the stairs, and I started feeling the pain of the wounds underneath my feet. I guess the high ran off.

    Your feet okay, Quentin? asked Amy.

    I guess she noticed.

    No. They were bleeding because I didn’t have any shoes on. The tarmac really tore ‘em apart. I replied. Who’s this?

    There was a man I didn’t recognize who sat next to Amy in the kitchen aisle. He looked to be about Amy’s age, maybe slightly older. His hair was unkempt, and he looked to have just woken up. He stood up, and I saw he stood tall, about six feet. Only slightly taller than my five-eleven.

    Hey! I’m Dillon. Amina’s boyfriend. She was telling me about how crazy you looked when she found you. You look fine now, but I wish I saw you like that. He said.

    He caught me off guard, and I smiled. He was the first person to ever treat me normally, and not treat me like I was a bomb about to explode. He held up his hand, expecting a high-five. I hit it.

    Hey, Dillon. I’m Quentin. Are these your clothes? I hope you don’t mind that I’m wearing them. I found them outside the bathroom and assumed they were for me.

    He looked me up and down like he’d just now noticed I was wearing clothes.

    Yeah. They do seem to be mine, but I haven’t seen those in a while. You can have them. You seem to need them more than I do. He chuckled at that.

    I liked Dillon. Thanks, man, I replied.
