About this ebook
Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:
#1 The human spirit is an inescapable, fundamental aspect of every human being. It takes on whichever character it has from the experiences and choices that we have lived through or made in our past. Our life and how we find the world now and in the future is largely a result of what we have become in the depths of our being.
#2 The Way of Jesus is a revolution of the human heart, not the formation of social institutions and laws. It is a revolution of character that changes people’s ideas, beliefs, feelings, and habits of choice. It proceeds by changing people from the inside out.
#3 The church is not the kingdom of God, but it is an inevitable expression and instrument of the kingdom’s presence among us. It is a society of Jesus springing up in Jerusalem, in Judea, and in Samaria.
#4 The inside of a person is what matters the most for how their life goes and ought to go. Things good and bad will happen to them, but what makes their life go is what they become within.

#1
The human spirit is an inescapable, fundamental aspect of every human being. It takes on whichever character it has from the experiences and choices that we have lived through or made in our past. Our life and how we find the world now and in the future is largely a result of what we have become in the depths of our being.
#2
The Way of Jesus is a revolution of the human heart, not the formation of social institutions and laws. It is a revolution of character that changes people’s ideas, beliefs, feelings, and habits of choice. It proceeds by changing people from the inside out.
#3
The church is not the kingdom of God, but it is an inevitable expression and instrument of the kingdom’s presence among us. It is a society of Jesus springing up in Jerusalem, in Judea, and in Samaria.
#4
The inside of a person is what matters the most for how their life goes and ought to go. Things good and bad will happen to them, but what makes their life go is what they become within.
#5
The hidden world of the self is our spiritual side, and it is not perceivable by the senses. It is the only thing that is celebrated or degraded in the arts, biography, and history.
#6
The statement that Man shall not live by bread alone was adapted by Jesus from the history of the Jewish experience with God. Jesus was, among other things, the most profound and powerful expression of that experience. But it was also given new and profound meaning by his death and resurrection.
#7
The process of spiritual formation is the elevation of the human spirit, and it is a problem that has been around since humanity itself. The most successful societies have been those that have been able to elevate the human spirit.
#8
Spiritual transformation, the renovation of the human heart, is an inescapable human problem with no human solution. It lies beyond the reach of programs of inner transformation that draw only on the human spirit.
#9
The quest for spiritual formation is an age-old and worldwide one. It is rooted in the deep personal and even biological need for goodness that haunts humanity. It has taken many forms and has now resurfaced at the beginning of the twenty-first century to meet our present situation.
#10
The question, Am I a Christian. cannot be answered by citing denominational, ethnic, or national names or symbols. It must be answered in terms of what we are in our heart before God, in the depths of our being.
#11
Christian spiritual formation is focused on Jesus. It is a process of forming the inner world of the human self in such a way that it becomes like the inner being of Christ himself. Obedience is an essential outcome of Christian spiritual formation.
#12
Spiritual formation is not just the process of inner being formation, but also the formation of the Spirit of God and the spiritual riches of Christ's continuing incarnation in his people. It is a gift of grace.
#13
Spiritual formation is not a mysterious, irrational process
