About this ebook

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:

#1 The fourfold definition of spiritual formation is as a process, of being formed, in the image of Christ, and for the sake of others. It is a process of involvement with God’s gracious work, and it is a rebellion against God’s work that leads to a destructive and dehumanizing emptiness.

#2 Scripture reveals that human wholeness is always realized in the act of nurturing one another toward wholeness, whether within the covenant community of God’s people or in the role of God’s people in healing brokenness and injustice in the world.

#3 The Christian journey is a process, not a day-by-day experience with its ups and downs, victories and defeats, and successes and failures. It is a process that requires of us a limited involvement of our time and energies. If we do not receive the desired results almost instantly, we become impatient and frustrated.

#4 Spiritual growth is similar to physical growth. We do not expect to put an infant into its crib at night and in the morning find a child, an adolescent, or yet an adult. We expect that infant to grow into maturity according to the processes that God has ordained for physical growth.

The fourfold definition of spiritual formation is as a process, of being formed, in the image of Christ, and for the sake of others. It is a process of involvement with God’s gracious work, and it is a rebellion against God’s work that leads to a destructive and dehumanizing emptiness.

    #2

Scripture reveals that human wholeness is always realized in the act of nurturing one another toward wholeness, whether within the covenant community of God’s people or in the role of God’s people in healing brokenness and injustice in the world.

    #3

The Christian journey is a process, not a day-by-day experience with its ups and downs, victories and defeats, and successes and failures. It is a process that requires of us a limited involvement of our time and energies. If we do not receive the desired results almost instantly, we become impatient and frustrated.

    #4

Spiritual growth is similar to physical growth. We do not expect to put an infant into its crib at night and in the morning find a child, an adolescent, or yet an adult. We expect that infant to grow into maturity according to the processes that God has ordained for physical growth.

    #5

Our culture, however, tends to train us in the instant gratification method. We do the right thing, put the money in the correct slot, push the correct button, and get the product we want at the bottom. But this does not mean that we will experience genuine growth toward wholeness.
