Conclusions
Introduction
This practical guide has been written with the aim of enabling dog owners to achieve several key goals. We speak of key objectives because it is not only about having a trustworthy friend to whom we give our affection and love, but also about having a well-behaved pet that gives us a lot of pleasure. Therefore, we can highlight as main objectives those aimed at achieving better obedience, greater calm and the development of polite behavior in dogs. However, this text will not only and exclusively talk about obedience and discipline. Another goal is to strengthen the emotional bond between dogs and their owners through effective communication and problem solving.
When we decided to write this guide, we took into account a very important concept, namely the relationship between a person and their dog. In other words, we started from the assumption that it is a special and unique bond. These loving four-legged companions often become an integral part of people's lives, providing unconditional love, companionship and joy. Throughout history, dogs have been trusted friends, herders, protectors and, more recently, housemates. These relationships are based on mutual trust, affection and non-verbal communication. With their ability to understand human emotions, dogs enrich the lives of their owners in many ways and create a bond that goes beyond mere words. In this guide, we therefore explore the wonderful world of human-dog relationships step by step.
Ultimately, the overarching aim of the book is to promote the long-term well-being of both dog and owner by creating a harmonious and fulfilling relationship based on trust, respect and mutual understanding. You will also find lots of practical tips that you can use in everyday life with your dog, as well as clear instructions on how to train your dog and improve impulse control.
To achieve this goal, we have decided to divide this book into several sections covering different topics: from the basics of understanding our best friend's impulses and the frustration associated with them, to recognizing their characteristic signs. Using real-life examples and case studies, we show how understanding and increasing your dog's tolerance can affect his future behavior.
In the second part of the book, you lay the foundations for successful and correct behavior. In the next part you explain the basic training for obedience in a very practical way, and in the following chapters you show all the exercises and activities you need to control your dog's impulsiveness, improve your relationship with him and better manage his frustration (parts four and five). The sixth part deals with the actual socialization of our animal friend; the seventh part analyses and resolves possible aggression problems and the development of positive behaviour. Part eight then shows examples and cases from real life: This part of the guide will help you in a very practical way to properly discipline your dog in various real and everyday situations. Then, in the ninth part of the text, there is a vademecum on how to solve various problems with your dog, to conclude in the tenth and final part with some basic advice on how to build a lasting, functioning bond with our beloved four-legged friend, based on mutual trust. You will therefore also find many practical tips that you can use in everyday life with your dog, as well as clear instructions on how to train your dog and improve impulse control.
Before concluding this introduction and after explaining the overall structure of this book, we feel it is appropriate to introduce the topic of impulse control and tolerance towards our pet. Let's start with a simple question: why are impulse control and frustration tolerance important for our dog?
Let's divide this question into two parts and answer the first one: Impulse control in dogs is important for several reasons. First and foremost is safety: a dog that reacts impulsively can put itself, other animals and people in danger. For example, it could run into the street or show aggression towards other dogs or people. And you can't let that happen! Another point to bear in mind relates to compliance with the rules themselves: Impulse control helps to ensure that the dog adheres to its owner's rules and commands. This makes living together with the dog more harmonious.
In addition, a dog that can control its impulses is easier to socialize with
