Department of Revenge. Matthew speaking. How may I help you? Pause. But not too long. The guy sounded sweet but aggressive. Maybe he was everything I needed for my current problem.

I swallowed dry air, nervous. Is this the Erie branch? My voice cracked and I sounded as if I were twelve, edging through puberty, boner-hard all the time, although I was twenty-nine and somewhat experienced about life.

I suppose. It’s closer to Templeton than Erie. We’re not in Pittsburgh, though. Can I help you?

I…I… I’ve never stuttered before. Why now? What had gotten into me?

You don’t have to be nervous. The DOR is here to help you. Everything is confidential. I can assure you the line isn’t being tapped, neither are China and Russia listening. Now, tell me your first name and the specifics of your problem. If you want to supply me with your last name, you can, but it’s not required.
