The day starts like all the others - depressing and lonely. I crawl out of bed and wish immediately that I had someone next to me. Then I shower and get ready for work, and by the time I walk in the front doors I see the guy I dreamed about last night.

Literally.

He’s standing at the counter buying a pair of jeans from my coworker, Anna. She’s beaming at him like she’s never seen anything quite so handsome, and I don’t blame her, because neither have I. He must be six foot two and two hundred pounds of muscle, and he’s got close cropped hair like he’s a soldier or something. Then he suddenly looks up at me, and I realize that I’ve frozen in place.

Oh my god. This is seriously the guy I saw last night in my dreams. How could this be happening?

Anna puts his jeans in a bag, and he nods at her and then takes the bag and walks away from the counter, heading straight in my direction. Of course, he’s not coming to talk to me - he’s just walking in my direction because the exit is here. Duh.

But then he stops right in front of me, standing a few feet away. I’m staring at him square in the eyes, and he’s looking down at me since he’s a good ten inches taller than me. I don’t know why, but I for some reason blurt out, Hey, how are you today?

Then I cup my hand over my mouth, feeling so embarrassed, and he smiles at me and says, I’m good. What’s your name?

Haylee, I stammer, feeling like I’ve got a fever because my face is burning from how much I’m blushing.

I’m James, he says in a raspy, masculine voice. Then he sticks a big hand forward and waits for mine.

My arm feels like it’s trembling so hard it’s going to fall off as I accept his handshake. Then when I feel his rough, calloused hands, my heart starts to flutter. God, what’s gotten into me?
