About this ebook

I am Felisa Isom, a licensed massage therapist in the USA. The book Thera Bamboo Massage is to provide information about muscles and techniques of massage using bamboo and bamboo sticks to deliver a much deeper and firm pressure in our massage to help our client release pain, reduce tension, and alleviate muscle tightness while saving our hands, wrist, and fingers from possible pain and strain as the bamboo replaces our hand, wrist, and fingers when delivering deep-tissue massage and even Swedish massage.

This book can be used to learn updated techniques using bamboo for a certain muscle that needs attention in its pain. This book was published strictly for informational purposes only.

    Foreword

    by Ashley Bailey

I've known Felisa since 2018, when I accepted a position as a spa manager where she was employed. During my five years working with Felisa, my knowledge and understanding of the benefits of massage has grown tremendously. I am now a vocal advocate: Everyone needs a massage. Felisa has played such an important role in educating me on massage technique, the muscles, and the whys. She has been, for five years now, a licensed massage therapist in Indiana, and eleven years in total as a massage therapist. She wrote this book to help and lead the way to Thera Bamboo Massage, giving her peers access to a book that comes with tools not only to learn it but to be able to apply it.

It has been such a pleasure and privilege to be a part of Felisa's commitment and determination to get this book in your hands. As a licensed massage therapist, she went above and beyond in continuing education requirements to not only be the best she can as massage therapist but to be a leader of introducing one of the massage modalities to the United States—the Thera Bamboo Massage. I loved it, and I am sure, you will love it too.

Keep in mind, I don't write as a massage therapist. I will leave you to the author to take you through the rest of the book, learning from the professional of knowledge and expertise. I write this as a recipient of a Thera Bamboo Massage with a crash course in its benefits from Felisa. Once you're through with the book, it also has some tips for safe care and how properly drape your client and be more to equipped in everything needed to begin practicing the Thera bamboo Massage. You'll also be ready to add a new modality to help heal body and mind.

    Introduction

Massage nowadays goes a long way, from traditional technique to modern technique, eastern technique, and the latest updated western technique. As we all know, all massage promotes relaxation and balance to our body circulation, relieves muscle tension and pain, stress relief, and more.

After all the updated western techniques I have been using in all my bodywork, way back in 2012 in the Philippines, I studied massage therapy and got certified in the Philippines. From there, I also learned bamboo massage taught by a massage trainer. I let the massage therapist massage my husband with a bamboo stick; my husband loved it.

When I came here to the United States, I brought a set of bamboo sticks for massage with me even though I didn't know if I can use them over here. In the year 2018, I became a licensed massage therapist in the USA; my specialty is deep-tissue massage and injury assessment. I committed myself to helping people in pain. People loved the way I worked, and when I felt that the demand was getting high, I started to feel my hand, wrist, arm, elbow, and shoulder get tired. Then, I remembered my bamboo stick.

Little by little, I started incorporating my massage with a bamboo stick into 80 percent of my bodywork. I started to study the techniques that were already out in the massage world—some of the techniques that I enhance are the Swedish massage technique, reflexology using a bamboo stick, deep-tissue massage technique, and injury assessment. I use bamboo instead of my hand and forearm, and it works. A lot of clients under my care loved it.

In this book, I would like to introduce the Bamboo Therapeutic Massage, which I later called Thera Bamboo Massage, where I incorporate bamboo into almost 80 percent of my bodywork, combining my bamboo massage with the concept of anatomy, physiology, and pathology. I combined it with the massage techniques that already exist and it works.

I would like to dedicate this to all massage therapists, the modalities that help them to save wrists and hands by helping the community. I dedicate this to all the clients under my care that want to relax, be relieved, and be tension-free.
