Silver Fir - Trinity Blacio
Chapter One
Olive Perry had waited for the last possible minute before pulling on her coat and grabbing her purse. It was time to keep her promise to her dead husband. Six years he had been gone. Cancer. I’m going, Alex, but I’m protesting this. I hope you know,
she mumbled, grabbing her keys.
On his death bad, Alex Perry had looked at her and made her promise to always put up a Christmas tree, their favorite kind, the Silver Fir. No matter how she felt, he made her promise to put up the decorations she had collected. Jackass,
she mumbled, going out the door.
At the age of fifty-six, Olive wasn’t that old, but on some days, she sure felt like it. Alex had been her life. She smiled, getting in the car, remembering the first time he had grabbed a handful of her hair, pulling her head back and glaring down at her. He had ordered her to apply for the position she had believed she’d never get. But of course, he had been right.
Daddy,
she whispered, tears coming to her eyes. He had been her partner, Daddy, and Dom for over twenty-two years. Three kids, each of them off living their own lives now. Her oldest married and expecting her first child. Olive was going to be a grandma.
She slid in her Christmas CD and headed to the new place Olive had seen that still had Silver Firs. Of course, she had waited, hoping that there wouldn’t be any left, but sure enough, as if Alex was there, she drove past a place the other day noticing the sign advertising Silver Firs.
So, here she was three days before Christmas, going to get a small tree. Olive even had the ornaments and the lights out waiting to be put up. She had sent the kids their gifts since, this year, each of them
