The Elephant And The Dog
It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.
-Aristotle
A while back in the bustling city of Varanasi, the king had a big herd of elephants. His most cherished one had an unusual buddy – a little dog. The dog first showed up at the elephant's stable to munch on the rice that slipped from the elephant's mouth during meal times. As days rolled into weeks, the elephant and the dog became inseparable pals. The elephant wouldn't touch her food unless her little friend was there to share it with her. They did everything together - sleeping, bathing, and even playing, with the elephant gently tossing the dog around with her trunk.
But then, one day, a mean stable worker sold the dog to a random traveler for a few coins. After her friend was gone, the elephant was super sad. She stopped eating, drinking, and bathing. She just stood in her corner, swaying back and forth with sorrow. When the king found out about his favorite elephant's worsening condition, he was really worried. He summoned his smartest advisor and said, Check on my dear elephant and figure out what's wrong with her.
The advisor did a thorough check-up and found nothing physically wrong with the elephant. So, he figured that it must be something emotional. He asked the elephant's main caregiver, Did anything change in the stable recently?
The caregiver replied, Indeed, the elephant had a close friend in a dog, but the dog disappeared some time ago.
Hearing this, the advisor hurried back to the king and reported, Your elephant is very upset because her dog friend is gone.
Well,
said the king, how in the world am I going to find a lost dog in this gigantic city?
"I suggest making a public announcement that anyone found keeping
