    Unlocked - Barbara Kay

    DEDICATION

I dedicate this book to everyone who I have had the privilege to walk in this life with. Every single person has taught me something and I hope I get to see every one of you in Heaven. I know we will have lots of laughs at how much we learned from that vantage point.

    ENDORSEMENTS

Barbara Kay has been a valuable part of our Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry’s pastoral team for the last 17 years. Her love for Jesus is evident. And her commitment to seeing our students walk in freedom has left a lasting impact. Her new book, Unlocked, reminds me of the words of Jesus in Luke 12, where He teaches that it is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom. In other words, He is more excited about your accessing the reality of His world than you are. This is the adventure that you and I have been invited into. May we be ones who answer His invitation with a resounding Yes!

In a world that’s confused about who they are and where to turn for guidance, Unlocked teaches us what it means to be led by the Spirit and unlock our true identity in Him. Through vulnerably sharing her own story of adoption, Barbara teaches followers of Jesus what it means to be sons and daughters of God. She’s the spiritual mama you need in your life, showing you how to be part of the family so you can step into all He’s created you to be.

Barbara Kay has been a dear friend and colleague for years — I count it a great honor to have witnessed the fruit of the testimony shared in her latest book, Unlocked.

Throughout the pages, she shares revelatory teaching and unique personal experiences that will empower you to courageously break barriers of your own past, conquer limiting belief systems, and step into the fullness of who you were created to be. You will be inspired to greater levels of freedom and intimacy with the Holy Spirit.

    INTRODUCTION

    Who told you

    that you were naked?

Where did we attain belief systems that we are lacking something after we have been born again? Are we still eating from the tree of knowledge in Genesis 3:11? Are we living a life beneath the original design of our Creator?

It’s time to be renewed. God knows the beginning from the end because He already gave it to us.

Romans 8:29-30: For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

This verse tells us that we are called and chosen, and He is backing us up. He knows what He has put in us and now we are learning how to let it out.

Are we eating so much from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and taking in so much information that we are limiting the space that is created for Him? We are created to take Him in, to feast on Him. He said that He came to give us life and life abundantly.

The definition of Abundant is: present in great quantity; more than adequate; over sufficient: well supplied with something, richly supplied, as with resources.

Does this describe your life? This book is not just here to show you what’s in you, but how to let it out, that you might eat daily from the tree of life.

Ephesians 1:17-21: That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

He has given us the keys to the kingdom and we need to unlock the kingdom within us to reveal His kingdom around us. He tells us to work OUT our salvation with fear and trembling, and He has given us everything we need already. It just needs to be unlocked.

    Chapter one

    Being Led

    by the Spirit

Being led by the Spirit - we hear this catchphrase all the time. What does it actually mean to be led by the Spirit of God? First, and foremost, the Holy Spirit is a person. Being led by someone you don’t know can feel like a risky UBER ride which is why getting to know the Holy Spirit is such a great starting point. He is so vast and so much about quality time and really has no ending point. He is really into doing life with you, and not just about some BIG spiritual moment. The Holy Spirit is like a good friend who you get to do your normal day to day routine with.

If we can’t let the Holy Spirit share His perspectives, how can we really be led by Him?

When I am with trusted friends who know me, we don’t have to have any plans, we just enjoy each other’s company - even if we are just doing our laundry. Sometimes we have conversations where we share our hearts and opinions, and have permission to change each other’s minds. If we can’t let the Holy Spirit share His perspectives, how can we really be led by Him? He is not evasive and floaty, and anything goes like many believers I know have portrayed Him. He is all knowing, all powerful and always taking me outside of my own human limitations to lead me to the greater will and glory of the Father.

Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

My limited experience or perspective cannot lead me into the fullness of what was provided and paid for at the cross of Jesus Christ. My willingness to give up my rights and take the Holy Spirit’s hand have led me into some of the most mind boggling, unexplainable, and miraculous experiences. I am not that special, but as believers in Christ, it’s our inherent right to not be bound to the limitations of this world. In Jesus’ own words,

John 14:12: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

In John 14:15, Jesus also said He would send us a helper so that we wouldn’t be alone. He says He doesn’t leave us as orphans - we have been adopted into a holy family with an inheritance so rich, it might take an eternity to
