    PART I: INTRODUCTION

Chapter 1: Getting Started with Intelligent Devices

WELCOME TO THE WORLD of intelligent devices...! In this chapter, we will take a closer look at the basics of building smart devices using open-source electronics and IoT technology. We'll explore the various components involved, how they work together to create intelligent devices, and how you can get started with your own project.

Intelligent devices, also known as smart devices, are electronic devices that are equipped with sensors, processors and final element. These devices can collect data from the environment, analyze it and use it to make decisions or take actions. They can communicate with other intelligent devices to share information or coordinate actions.

The benefits of intelligent devices are numerous. They can improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance safety and enable new possibilities. For example, a smart thermostat can learn your habits and preferences to adjust the temperature of your home automatically, saving energy and reducing your bills.

Intelligent devices work by using sensors to detect and measure physical or environmental changes. These sensors convert the physical signal into an electrical signal, which is sent to a microcontroller or a programmable logic controller (PLC). The microcontroller or PLC processes the data using algorithms or decision rules, and then sends command or output signal to an actuator or final element, such as a motor, relays or display.

To get started with intelligent devices, you will need some basic knowledge of electronics and programming. The first step is to choose the right components for your project. Arduino boards are popular choices for beginners, as they are affordable, versatile and have a large community of users. There are many different types of sensors, actuators, and other components available in the market. It's important to choose the ones that are appropriate for your project. Once you have your components, you can start building your device. This will involve connecting the components to the Arduino board and writing code to control them. Arduino boards use a programming language that is similar with C++.

Intelligent devices are rapidly transforming the way we live, work and play. By using open-source electronics and a little bit of programming, you can create your own intelligent devices and join the revolution. Whether you're a student, a hobbyist or a professional, getting started with intelligent devices is a great way to support Industry 4.0 and stay ahead of the curve.
