My best friends and I laughed as we walked through the reception. We had just finished our college degrees. Now it was time to be adults, but for now we were reveling in the last moments we had together before life started getting in the way.

Ash, Brandon, one of my friends, said as he slapped his hand down onto my shoulder, we're fucking done.

The smile on my face grew even larger than before. Yeah, it's awesome.

Brandon, Lex, the third member of our small group of friends, whispered into my friend's ear. The three of us had been roommates all through college, even managing to finagle it so we all lived together when we moved off campus at the same time. It seemed fitting that we would stick together until we parted ways after tonight. There she is again. Don't look directly at her.

Who? Brandon asked. His voice was just as loud as ever. I knew no matter how hard Lex tried to get him to be quiet, it wouldn't work. He liked to draw attention to himself too much to be quiet for long periods of time. And even though I enjoyed his antics, they did not always reflect kindly upon us as people. In fact, most times we looked just as bad as him, considering we often helped him carry out whatever prank he had come up with.

It's her, Lex insisted. She keeps looking over here.

I scanned the room, trying to find this mysterious woman. Brandon kept his eyes forward, determined to see what our friend was talking about. That was part of Brandon's personality, too stubborn for his own good. He couldn't keep a girlfriend because he couldn't admit when he was wrong. But with a few drinks, he was a great wingman at the bar, pointing me in the direction of a lot of willing ladies.

And then I spotted her. She was wearing a tight blue dress beneath her graduation robe. Like us, she had unzipped the robe, but still wore it like a long, flowing jacket, open in the front with the wide sleeves hiding her hands. She was tall and athletic. I wondered if she played any sports while in college.

That wasn't the only reason I noticed her, however. It was the fact she was staring right at us, seemingly sizing us up. I could see why Lex got spooked and wanted Brandon to quit joking around so openly. This woman did not look friendly.

I've got this, Brandon said, cocky as ever. He strutted over, full of swagger.

Lex and I stayed back, watching as our friend sauntered off toward a woman who clearly scared the hell out of him. At least on the inside, I wasn't entirely sure about Brandon. After all, he was the type of guy to start a fight just for kicks, not caring about the consequences, just for fun.

What's up, sweet cheeks, Brandon said, loud enough so that we could both hear him from where we stood.

The woman turned away from us, focusing her attention on my blond haired friend. Call me that one more time, she said, glaring at him.

Relax, Brandon said. He then reached out and slapped the woman's ass. You know you like it.

Lex and I both laughed, knowing this behavior was normal for Brandon. I had never felt comfortable with the way he behaved around women, but I laughed anyway.
