My best friend just surprised me with a weekend getaway at an all-inclusive resort. She had paid for everything. All I had to do was show up and have a great time.

Sounds too good to be true, right?

Because it was.

This trip wasn't about relaxing, or the two of us bonding over a girl's weekend.

She had something else entirely in mind.

Not only would the two of us be going, but she had also invited her husband, as well as her older brother, Brett.

That last little bit of information she had conveniently left out until the last minute.

Now, instead of lying on a beach, sipping tropical drinks, I was forced to spend my vacation with her brother, while she was off having a romantic time with her husband.

But after spending time with Brett, I found myself becoming attracted to him.

This was wrong. We can't be together, right?

CHAPTER 1

Laura

One weekend . . .

That was all it took for everything to change.

I was currently sitting on the plane with my best friend Michelle and her husband, Jordan.

Oh, and also her older brother.

I’ve known Michelle practically all my life. We’ve been best friends since the very first moment we met. Her older brother, Brett, never really used to hang out with us. He left us alone, and was always off with his own friends. But the older we got, the more he seemed to be around. It made it really hard to get in any quality girl talk and gossip. He was a nice enough guy. He was just . . . always there.

And surprise, surprise! Here he is on our vacation. The night that Michelle came over to surprise me with the tickets and everything, she made it sound as if it would just be the two of us going. I was so excited at the thought of a girls trip. Just us, the beach, alcohol, and all the sexy men we could handle.

Well, the men would just be for me to play with and her just to look at. She was a married woman, after all.

She had waited until she had everything all booked and confirmed to inform me that it was not, in fact, a girls trip, but that her husband and brother would be joining us as well.

By then I felt that it was too late to back out. And she was generously paying for the entire thing without wanting a cent in return.

At first, yes, I did sort of want to try to come up with a good enough excuse to get me out of it. Spending the weekend on a beach with Brett just didn’t seem like that much of a good time to me. Like, at all.

But I ultimately gave in and decided not to miss out on this opportunity. Michelle was flying us all out to an all-inclusive resort. I’d just have to suck it up and make the best of it.

So I spent the entire flight in silence, squished between two complete strangers, trying to convince myself that this weekend would be unforgettable.

We landed after a few hours and walked out into the sweltering heat. My body quickly adjusted, thankfully, and I felt all my worries and tension from earlier just begin to melt
