About this ebook

My new boss gets every woman he desires.

I left him in high school and, somehow, I land in his bed again.

Now, I'm having is baby.

When I escaped my abusive ex-boyfriend, I needed a fresh start, including a new identity.

But when I show up to work, my drop-dead gorgeous boss is the same man who stole my heart years ago.

Except, he doesn't know it's me.

The more time we spend together, the harder it becomes to keep my secret.

We started as enemies, but when he finds out who I am, everything changes.

One night, pressed against his granite-hard muscles, I surrendered to temptation.

The need to be taken by him was too strong, and the spark between us reignites, as intense as ever.

When my past comes back to haunt me, he wants to be my protector.

And now that I am pregnant, will this tatted biker step up?

    Chapter one

I did it! I can’t believe I actually did it!

I didn’t think I had ever been more proud of myself than I was at that moment. I had done it: completely uprooted my life and decided to start anew.

I looked around me and took it all in. Greenville looked a lot smaller than I remembered, but then again the last time I was here, I had never seen New York. I spent most of my time in the fields making memories with my then boyfriend for the summer while visiting my grandmother. Life was easy and I was filled with so much hope for my future. Those were the good old days.

A couple walked by me holding hands, and the lady smiled then waved at me. Thank God for Southern hospitality.

Excuse me, miss! I called after her.

She stopped and excused herself from her partner. Yes, how can I help you? she asked.

Where can I get a taxi? I asked her.

She laughed. You’re not from around here, are you? There are not a lot of taxis, but let me call Earl for you. I think he’s available.

She pulled out her phone and called him. After the brief phone call, she turned her attention back to me. Okay, darling, he says he’s on his way. He’ll meet you at Marla’s bakery. That’s across the street, right over there.

I thanked her, and she rejoined her partner. If everyone here was as friendly and helpful as she was, I definitely made the right choice.

Coming here may have been risky, but I had no choice. I had to get away from Zachary.

He would be looking for Vanessa Hudson—I was going by Amber Whittaker now. I went through great lengths to change my identity and general appearance just to get away from him.

I should have seen the signs coming. Every time I thought about how naïve I was, how much I lost to that man, my heart ached.

You see, Zachary Fletcher is my ex-boyfriend and the man who single-handedly destroyed my life. I met him when I was a freshman in college at NYU, and we hit it off immediately. He was a bit of a loner, but I’d looked past that. He was charming, funny, smart…the whole package, right?

We had been dating for only two months when my parents died in a car crash. I don’t have any siblings and wasn’t in contact with any of my extended family members, so in that instant, I felt completely alone. Zachary was there for me. He was patient with me and so understanding as I mourned the loss of my family, so naturally I clung to him. He very quickly became my lifeline.

In hindsight that probably wasn’t the healthiest thing for me to do, but I digress. Zachary slowly pulled me out of the darkness and back into the light. I started to recover, and our relationship continued. I asked him to move in with me. At the time I thought it was a great idea. We would share costs, so I wouldn’t burn through the money that my parents left me as quickly.

Zachary insisted on handling the finances, and I let him. He simply wanted to take care of me; that’s what I thought. Soon he started questioning my choices. Whenever he’d find a receipt from a coffee shop or a restaurant, he’d ask what I was doing and who I was with. He’d always get upset and jealous if I went to the movies with my friends. I thought he was just uncomfortable with me spending money unnecessarily. I couldn’t bear the thought of upsetting him. What if he left me too? So I started to limit how often I went out with my friends. My life began to solely revolve around Zachary, and before the year ended, I had managed to alienate all my friends. I couldn’t blame them. I never wanted to hang out or do anything fun anymore.

You don’t need them, baby. You have me, Zach would often say.

    I was
