Rose & Evan - Jewel Adams

    CHAPTER ONE

Rose pulled her knees up and wrapped her arms around them. Get the hell out of my head!

The corner wasn’t small enough to hide in. Rose growled, but it didn’t stop the voice she kept hearing. Who are you?

She waited knowing no one would answer. There has to be an answer for this. She tried listening again but still couldn’t make out the words. It seemed as if the voice had been plaguing her for months. Rose knew she only started hearing him about two weeks ago. Same time as the Orights showed up.

The answers didn’t come. She failed to find any connection with the new Fae and the voices.

She leaned back and banged her head against the wall. You need to stop!

The knock on the door made her groan. Yes?

    Rose, are you alright?

Under her breath she said no. I’m fine, Mother.

    You don’t sound okay.

Abby’s hand flattened out on the door. She wanted to yank it open and make Rose talk to her. I am right here, Rose. Most things can be fixed, you just need to talk to me.

The door suddenly swung open, Abby caught it before it slammed shut. She pushed the door and stepped into the room. Rose looked like a small child coiled up in the corner of the room. Abby took a deep breath before she walked over to her daughter. Abby slid down the wall to sit on the floor beside Rose. Why don’t you start from the top and tell me what has you frazzled?

You will think I am crazy.

Abby held her humor back, I doubt that Rose. So, what’s wrong?

I have been hearing a voice.

    Voice...

    See, I told you.

Rose, I am trying to figure out what you could be hearing.

It started about two weeks ago.

    Oright...

I thought of that, same time but not related that I can find.

The time, it is the same though. It might be related, Rose.

    How?

Well, he caught the wish at that time, maybe another being caught it as well.

Rose thought a minute. Mother the language I hear isn’t one I can understand.

Are there any words that repeat themselves?

Hold on, let me listen again. It sounds as if the person is very excited, and I don’t think it is in a good way.

    Abby didn’t interrupt Rose.

I hear a word over and over.

What does it sound like, Rose.

    Purty, pirit.

    Portuit?

Rose looked at her mother, Yes, that is it.

    In Elven it means help.

Oh my. Mother he has been reaching out for a couple of weeks.

    Does it ever feel closer?

Today, it is like I could reach out and hit him.

We need the family for this one, Rose. Can you send out a call to everyone. I want to check my books, I think I have a book with the language in it.

Abby raced out of Rose’s room to her spell room. She stopped in the center of the room and spoke a find spell to the books. I need the Elf on the shelf book, please.

She could hear the spell racing through the books. She smiled when she saw one book slide forward on the shelf in the corner bookcase.

Abby walked over and pulled the book from the shelf. Here you are. She flipped through the pages and finally found the word. Help, portuit. She took the book with her to Rose.

Okay, Rose, I found the book. Abby looked at Rose and saw her daughter just sitting there as if in conversation with someone. She placed the open book in Rose’s hand. This is the language, Rose.

She watched the book flip through the pages, stop then move again to another page and she realized Rose was speaking with someone. Abby sat on the floor beside Rose and waited.

She figured the wish must have reached someone, an elf. There were many different factions of the Elven beings, like the Fae, each held their own abilities and purpose. Abby hoped they could help them.

She watched as Rose placed her hand on the book and started pulling the information on the pages inside herself. Sand could do this as well. The pages finally stopped moving, she watched Rose smile.

Rose started speaking aloud in Elven to the person talking to her. Rose’s relief grew over finally being able to talk and understand this person. They were having quite an active conversation.

Mother, should they come to Stone’s farm?

That would be best as the grounds are protected now.

Yes, Sand is still working on Iron’s land.

She could tell Rose was giving them directions to Stone’s farm.

Abby reached out to Stone and Izzy. She told them they would be having visitors very soon. They are Elven, I don’t know how many.

Stone told his mother she should hold off on any new wishes as the first seemed to be reaching far afield.

Abby heard her son’s laughter and smiled.

She also called out to Micca and told him what was happening. He said he would meet them at the farm. Micca was with Iron, and he would bring him along, if he could. He told her that many of the cows were birthing their young. Iron was very excited, he might not come, Micca would let her know.

Rose smiled at her and gave her a thumbs up.

Abby thought to herself that they needed to look at the land to the north for this group. Abby didn’t want to know what the Council would think of this development.

Abby thought about the Elven joining them. She had a feeling the Underlings attacked their groups as well. Elven rarely reached out to other beings, it must be dire for them to call for help.

It is Mother. The Elven are in bad shape a lot of them are wounded and sick from infection. I hope Sand can help them. I called him, we should get going to Stone’s, he said they were already starting to show up in his yard.

Alright, do we need to bring anything with us?

Blankets and such will be needed. I spoke to Rebecca she is going to go to Stone’s as well and start cooking with Izzy.

I guess we best get over there.

Yes. Rose turned to her and gave Abby a big hug. Thank you, Mother, I really thought I was losing it.

Abby cupped her cheek. You are the last person that will ever lose it, Rose.

They rushed around and found as much as they could carry to Stone’s for now. Abby felt anxious to learn all that the Elven might need.

As they flew to Stone’s they could see many groups heading that way as well. They are coming, Stone.

I can see them, Mother. There are a lot.

    Yes, we are almost there.

    Father just arrived.

Abby and Rose arrived at Stone’s and met everyone on the porch. Micca pulled her into a hug. Glad you are here, Ab-baleen. North sounds good.

Abby elbowed him in his side and buried her giggle against his chest. Our son told me not to make any more tear wishes.

    I agree.

Rose stood on the edge of the porch to look out at the groups arriving in Stone’s yard. Izzy came up beside her.

I promised Stone that I wouldn’t make any more wishes with Mother.

Rose laughed, I think this is many in one arrival, Izzy. I can see Gnomes, Flower Fae, and others. The Elven beings are a varied group like the Fae.

We will find a way, Rose.

Rose reached out and hugged Izzy. Iron already said he could take most of them to his farm.

And he thought he was lonely. Izzy huffed.

    Where are the babies, Izzy?

They are all out planting with Simon. She looked at Rose and gave her a half smile. They aren’t babies any longer, Rose. They are adults in size now.

My goodness, I know Mother said it would happen.

It has, they started changing last week. I miss the babies, but the new adults are wonderful.

I am not sure I could handle it as well as you have, Izzy.

Izzy smiled at her, You will, when you are ready, Rose.

Oh Izzy, I think I see the man I was speaking too.

Best go and grab him, Rose.

Rose stood on tiptoes failing to see the man she looked for. Darn, I lost him already.

Can I help, Rose? Evan hid his humor over the girl’s surprise. No, the image of her would be permanently imprinted on his mind from this point on.

Evan? It came out more a sigh than a question. Rose already knew how relentless this being could be when he wanted something.

Evan took hold of her hand and stepped up on the porch to stand beside her. We made it, Rose.

She looked at him, Yes, Evan. There are so many different beings, more than I expected.

We grew on the way here.

She squeezed his hand. I am so glad all of you found us.

Rose could barely pull her attention away from Evan, she seemed fascinated by his pointed ears and the way he tucked his grayish-white hair behind them. Her parents were making their way to them.

She pulled her attention away from Evan to her parents. "Mother, Father this Evan, the Elven King in charge of this group.

Evan this is my Father, Micca the King of Wolenar and my Mother Ab-baleen the True Queen of Wolenar."

Rose didn’t stop, knowing she would fall back under the Elven King’s charm. "Evan, this is my brother Stone and his wife Izzy, they own the farm you arrived at. My other brother Iron is over by that group, he owns the farm next to Stone’s.

I see my other brother Sand is already working with your injured and ill."

Stone spoke up I told Sand to take his patients to the barracks, it already has beds setup.

Evan bowed to the family that called out to him. I appreciate all you are doing for everyone. We have all been without for a long time.

Micca returned the Elf’s bow with his own. I am relieved my daughter Rose was able to guide you here, King Evan. We will try to help all we can. Please speak with Stone about the food and shelter. Once things calm down, we can talk about housing for you.

Thank you sire. I know this a lot to manage. As I told Rose we met up with many beings looking to find you, they joined us.

Instead of arguing with herself she decided to try and speak to Evan in silence using the Elven language. I am glad Evan that you didn’t give up on me. It took me a while to really hear you.

Rose, you have mastered my language very well. I would never give up on you Rose.

She smiled when he looked at her.

Rose, the Fae heritage in your family is varied.

It is Evan. My mother is the last pure Time Fae, she passed her line to us along with my father’s Wolenar.

My brother Stone met Izzy, she is a Woodland Fae and as far as she knows the last of her kind. Together they have four children that now carry the Woodland and Time Fae heritage with the wolf line of Wolenar.

It is good that these lines are now being continued. The Underlings have destroyed many in all cultures.

My brother Sand and I have used Spells to keep these lands you are on, safe from the Underlings.

I felt the magik surrounding this area when we arrived. It is a marvelous accomplishment. Almost everyone here has suffered the loss of family and life as they knew it because of the Underlings.

I hope Evan, your travels are over, and you will find peace here. I see my brother Stone wants to speak with you.

I will go to him. We will speak again Rose.

Rose watched him leave. Evan stood as high as Stone and Iron, and with the build to match. She felt there was more to the man. Rose felt the warrior he carried inside. He would be a formidable opponent.

    Who would Rose?

Rose turned to look at Vinn, she smiled. "Oh nothing, the whole group. It is sad to see so many that have had their lives destroyed because of one greed driven being.

I am glad to see you, Vinn." Rose leaned into the man in her life.

It took me a while to get away from the Governor.

I do hope the man is in a better mood today.

Vinn laughed softly, the man is never in a good mood, Rose.

She buried her laughter against Vinn’s chest. I know, but I can always hope.

News of their arrival is already spinning through the town.

Ahh, well that explains the Governor’s unhappy mood.

He thought two Fae were bad. Wait until he finds out how many different beings just came today.

They are a varied lot. I’m not sure of all the different beings in the group.

Who is the man you were talking to Rose?

He is the Elven King Evan. He said many here joined his group to get here.

Is there going to be enough room on the farms for everyone?

    "I believe so, Vinn.

I think the injured and sick will stay here at Stone’s. The rest will go over to Iron’s."

That would be better than bringing them into town.

Rose frowned and looked up at Vinn. You know Vinn, for a place that protected all beings, Wolenar should welcome these people no matter the effort it might take.

Vinn smiled down at the fireball in his arms. You would think that Rose. But it has been many years since Wolenar lived in that mindset.

True, but it is here now. They can’t ignore it.

    CHAPTER TWO

Stone took over and started directing groups to shelter here or those going over to Iron’s farm. He felt the Elven king approaching. His father was right, this man held a warrior’s spirit inside, one Stone wouldn’t want to fight against.

He turned to meet the King. I am Stone.

    Evan.

"Good to meet you. I am trying to organize things a bit here. I hope you agree that the sick and injured
