To my mom, dad, and pap
for always supporting me.
For Helle, with love
Sweet girl, you have a heart of gold. I see your naked feet on coarse sand, dancing along the frothy crowns of waves. There are a million questions in your head, a million songs on your tongue. Your words ride on the wind, changing its tune to bouts of heartache and beauty. Where does this longing start? Where does it end? Your soul could encompass the world. Wants to travel everywhere. So stuck. So delicate.
Yet you stride on without fear, ignoring the fact that you could burst at any minute. Burst like the bubbles ‘neath your toes.
Sweet girl, why are your words so sad? They kindle the embers of melancholy in my chest. And I want nothing more than to join you on the beach and hear your magic songs. You, siren of words.
Our hands would entwine like washed-up seaweed. Fingers sticky with salt and sand. I would walk with you. Forever.
Sweet girl, never forget you are loved. This world holds more beauty because you are in it.
