How to Farm Spirituality - Phillip A. Johansen
Chapter 1:
A mental decision
––––––––
When it comes to decisions, especially decisions about failure, most people get so caught up in past mistakes and frustrations that they become mentally paralyzed. You have to remember that you are also human and you can always make mistakes. Remember that your mistakes do not define you, those mistakes do not always define your future, but they can always help you focus on tomorrow. Spiritual progress does not mean godliness, but just a few changes in your life can make a big difference in your reality, which can help you achieve your goal of improving your spirituality.
As you look back on each new year and think about the changes you would like to see in your life, you better set your priorities.
You may want to quit smoking, exercise more, or lose weight. You may want to leave an unhealthy relationship or start building stronger relationships with your partner, friends, or family. No matter what you want, remember that your first priority should always be a stronger relationship with God.
One of the most important things to remember is to forgive yourself for the past. Loving yourself really means being able to forgive yourself for the mistakes you made yesterday and then making loving yourself and God a priority so that you can begin to trust Him for guidance. When you begin to prioritize getting closer to Him, He will always guide you as you seek first the kingdom of God. This is probably the best decision
you will ever make: to strengthen your relationship with God and seek his kingdom. This is the perfect time to commit to spending time thinking about Him and always considering God in every choice and action you make.
Set aside time each day for prayer and meditation with God. Take time to read the scriptures, let His Word guide you, and set realistic goals with God's guidance. You should also remember that starting a spiritual commitment is not just about reading the scriptures; it's about considering Him in every decision and choice you make.
Use your best judgment and wisdom when making your choices. When faced with the decision to do or not to do good, always consider how each decision you make will affect your relationship with God. Never get in trouble when you make a mistake, especially when you fall. Always have the right attitude. Don't think of yourself as the worst hitter, think of yourself as the best pitcher. You don't have to do things alone either. This is the reason for faith groups. You will always have a source of strength to support each other.

Way of making spiritual decisions:
1. Verification of human dimensions
If we want to make informed decisions about important human issues, we must first observe and assess our own emotional maturity. We have to ask ourselves if we have the appropriate maturity to make a responsible decision and assume all the tasks and functions that it entails.
One of the biggest signs of maturity is awareness and freedom from your emotions. Spiritual understanding also requires that we consider our entire life story and what we have accomplished in it: levels of emotional and spiritual maturity determined by family and environmental experiences.
All of a person's past affects their present emotional and spiritual maturity. We cannot interpret what God is doing in our lives without considering how our entire life story affects us. God not only considers the history of our existence, but he also works and acts in it. Everything I have experienced in my life, all my current weaknesses and strengths, is the starting point for spiritual insights.
As humans, we have many limitations and problems. If we want to create honest mental perceptions, we need to be aware of them and incorporate them into our decision-making process. As long as we are aware of and willing to overcome human limitations and weaknesses, they will not be an obstacle to seeking and finding God's will. We cannot gain spiritual insight if we are not aware of our own limitations, weaknesses, and shortcomings in seeking God's will. Spiritual discernment requires the ability to trust God to admit one's weaknesses, mistakes, and sins. We must accept all of our past, whatever it may be, and surrender it completely to God. God takes into account our human weaknesses, present and past when he reveals his will to us.
Fear and avoidance of the past keep us from true spiritual perception. Each of us has a close relationship with the past, present, and future. Spiritual perception also requires that we face all problems. With spiritual insight, we need to be aware that we ourselves can misinterpret our own feelings and emotions. There may be a mismatch between our stated motivation and what actually works for us. The difference is not possible without being aware of all the emotions within us and refraining from them. Unconscious emotional reactions can become an obstacle to understanding our own mental actions and desires.
A spiritual perception is a form of mental analysis, but always closely related to our emotions. Feelings are not only an element of our mental life but also an important element of our spiritual life. Being open and honest about your feelings is the
