The Guardian - Seals and Bounty Series Book Four - Ireland Lorelei

    Preface

I was leaving my office that was in the back of the casino, on the second floor and led into the parking deck for the employees. Officer Owens, one of the casino security guards, was walking out with me asking me some questions about if I needed any additional guards, that he had a nephew that was looking for work.

As we stepped out of the elevator and into the first floor of the parking deck, there was a man standing about six feet from the elevator to the left.

Then the rest happened so fast. Officer Owens yells, Gun.. and rotates in front of me, grabbing my arm as we run towards the nearest car. Then he shoves me to the ground as gunshots rang out all at the same time. I saw when Officer Owens took a bullet in the arm, but he kept shooting back, then I heard the other guard from the guard shack, Officer Johnson, yelling at the assailant to stop. Then he fired.

Then Officer Johnson was behind the car with us, telling us that the guy had run off. He was calling the police and an ambulance on his cell phone.

Ambulance? Oh, Officer Owens took a bullet in his arm. Then I looked over past where Officer Johnson was standing and I saw Officer Owens laying on the pavement with blood coming from his abdomen and his left arm. I immediately got up and ran over to him, took off my coat and held it on his abdomen until the ambulance got there.

Then police were swarming the area and asking me all of these questions. I answered them as much as I could, still in shock of what had happened. I heard one of the police officers ask Officer Johnson did he get a look at the man that had tried to kill me, but he said the man held his head down the whole time and had a toboggan on with some sunglasses when he came through the gate.

A look at the man that tried to kill me? Someone had really just tried to kill me?

    Chapter 1

    Grayson Clark

I was sitting at the nook in his kitchen drinking a cup of coffee and watching the news. The news reporter was talking about the attempt on my life from the night before. It didn’t even seem real to me. I was there and yet while I was watching the police and first responder footage being shown on my TV screen, it was like they were talking about someone else.

    Grayson, Dottie said.

Dottie Mason was his housekeeper and cook. She was an older lady in her mid sixties and was more like his grandmother than his maid. She had been working for his family since he was a young boy. After his parents died, when he turned twenty-two, and he became CEO of the family business, Dottie became the only family he had left. The last three years, he had wanted to hire someone else so she could retire, but she wouldn’t have it. Finally, this year, she did allow him to hire her an assistant. Now Emma did all of the cleaning while Dottie supervised and cooked. There was no one that was going to step into her kitchen, not even Grayson.

They both still lived in the house that he grew up in. It had five bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a kitchen, a formal dining room, a small dining room, a living room, a
