First Recording
I haven't been interviewed in a while. Is the recorder on? Do I just start talking?
Yeah. The recorder’s on. Go ‘head.
OK. Hi, I’m Gordon Stedmond. I worked as a Police Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department for 17 years. And on, umm, December 10, 2015… I… umm…
It’s all right, take your time.
I… Well, ok… I was out on patrol. See, I was patrolling my usual route. Nothing big ever happened there. It was pretty laid back. I liked that route. The most I dealt with were thefts, drug activities, welfare checks, disturbances, assaults. It was… It was decent. I mean I've responded to some pretty crazy calls, but nothing like this.
Tell me about December 10th.
It was a nice day. Near EOS… or End of Shift. There really wasn’t anything going on. I had a lot of calls that were minor, but helped to make the day go by quickly. Then at… Then…at… at… 1601 hours… The… the… I’m sorry.
"Don’t be. I can understand how difficult it must be to have to live through it again. It must have been a real gruesome scene. I want you to know how much I appreciate you taking the time off to share your story with me. I want you to also know I’m going to be crediting you in this book I’m writing about your experience as a police officer who witnessed one of the most gruesome and tragic incidents of our time… and from our city. But I digress,
