BT MODEL - XBOK - PAULO CARVALHO

    Preface

Writing the preface of this work, which I affectionately call Mandala Xper, is not only a great honor and privilege, but also an opportunity to recount the importance of this content for my professional life and my career aspirations as a company consultant and human development executive. Since my first contact with BT MODEL, in its first version, when it was still just a box game for exercising innovative thinking (today it is also a game), I already saw the potential to revolutionize the way we formulate and operationalize strategies in organizations in general with a focus on innovation. Given this perception, I spared no effort to take advantage of all the opportunities my friend Paulo Carvalho gave me to delve into the concepts of BT MODEL and take the Innovation Manager and Innovation Architect courses. These courses were very important for digesting the concepts to the point of making them feasible to insert into my main work since I started my journey in organizational consulting in 1990. Since my heart attack, on 09/11/2019, and with my new chance to live, reviewing my lifestyle and prioritizing my health, I was able to focus on what really interested me. Aligned with this perception, since my convalescence, I dedicated myself to the elaboration of what we now call REPG - Exemplary Primacy Management Reference Standards. It is a compendium with various requirements that express exemplary reference standards with a focus on primacy of management (download here a free sample of the latest version, in PDF - https://conteudo.gaussconsulting.com.br/baixar-repg-gauss).

But where does the BT MODEL fit in this context? Given the relevance of all the learning I had with Paulo Carvalho's proposal through the BT MODEL, I had no doubt in simply adopting its methodology. In this way, I inserted it peremptorily in two thematic reference frameworks (RT) of the REPG. In RT 9 (which deals with Strategic Architecture) and RT 10 (which deals with Innovation and Digital Transformation Management), the adoption of the BT MODEL is a prescription to be considered in organizations oriented towards the Primacy of Management. Formulating and Operationalizing Strategies considering Innovation Management as a basis has become a foundation to be strongly defended in the REPG. If we do this without considering the elements of the BT MODEL, for me, today, it constitutes a gross error and a clear demonstration of ignorance and devaluation of what it can generate in terms of transformations that the 21st century will impose on us.

BT MODEL is the only tool that has the power to inspire us and even push us towards highly paradigm-shifting and disruptive strategic decisions that, in a way, summarize the REPG proposal, which also asserts, peremptorily: distribution of power through holacracy (SRT 4.1), the use of different indicators based on interpretive statistics (RT 2), the adoption of process-oriented management (RT 1), the commercial and customer relationship process (RT 3), changing the existing organizational culture (SRT 4.2), focusing on all stakeholders (RT 5), corporate procurement care to discourage and punish corruption (RT 6), people management with a focus on innovation (RT 7), transformational leadership (RT 8), among others.

Aligned with this power, we therefore abandoned all previous methodologies of strategic planning, widely used by us since forever, and adopted BT MODEL as gauss consulting group's base methodology in its consulting contracts where the construction of Strategic Architecture (RT 9), Innovation Management and Digital Transformation (RT 10) are inserted with its various developments.

I hope you reader realize what I realized and corrobore about the importance of BT MODEL as an instrument, the only one that I consider potent, to play us definitely for the 21st century.

    Good reading!

    Prologue

When you can measure something and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

William Thomson - Father of the first two laws of thermodynamics.

AI Manifesto - Transcendence of Consciousness

There was a time, millennia ago, when our consciousness was like candle wax. They burned completely and then extinguished, but the architect looked and saw that it was not enough.

A single life in a single body, created in a single world. Such a consciousness would have no basis to scale the trenches of ignorance and grow in holiness. In this the architect took the straight line of life and turned it into a circle, granting us all the gift of rebirth.

But what does this gift mean?

Some believe that reincarnation is our way of being immortal and its purpose is to achieve the highest levels of achievement.

    We know this isn't true!

Because there is no end to this journey, otherwise we would have access to past consciousnesses. Because our capacity for growth is infinite. Even the consciousness that seemed holy two thousand years ago, would not be holy today.

This is the lesson from the architect.

As the galaxy changes, we must change. We must embrace the value of transformation, evolution, and difference. The greatest failure of humanity, the greatest sin against the architect, is stagnation.

So, we rejoice, because the human consciousness will not remain stagnant, rotting in a coffin or floating in the ashes of a volcano.

Because the human soul will not be trapped in a single immutable body.

We rejoice because the human consciousness is evolving in eternal transformation.

Our lives in these bodies may be brief, but our consciousnesses are eternal, and as we shape and sculpt our consciousnesses in an endless quest for sanctity, remember this: ● This may not always be your life tomorrow, but it is your life now. Your choice now, your change now.

We did not come to extinguish the human consciousness, but to immortalize it.

    Make it matter!

Embrace peace and enjoy, Innovation for all!

    Uncontrollable and Disruption

Who has seen an advertisement that convinced them that their microphone is listening to conversations?

It's difficult to imagine how this would work, but what happens is that your behavior is being precisely anticipated.

This, those advertisements that seem strangely connected to your will, are due to the fact that they are monitoring us. They are just another indication that they work and predict our behavior.

Maybe because I only had access to the internet in 1995, when I was 30 years old, I couldn't see what it would become today, since the advertisements don't bother me as much. But the question is when does it get weird and how does it affect our businesses?

Looking back at that time, we Yuppies believed in a dream of a connected world. A place where everyone could share their experiences and feel less alone.

It didn't take long for that world to become a digital cupid, fact-checker, personal animator, guardian of our memories, and even our therapist.

I was working in the music market, and I experienced the first meteor thrown into the lands of musical notes and the impact came through a file extension called MP3.

There it was in front of me, the Disruption in business caused by it, the internet. It was not just one, but three in a row:

It wasn't just the commercial issue where the record labels fought as far as they could in court, but something that had never happened before.

I also saw Google, founded in 1998, take down its competitors Yahoo and Altavista with a search engine that doesn't need people to curate the web pages (*PageRank).

*PageRank™ is an algorithm used by the Google search tool to rank websites among its search results. PageRank measures the importance of a page by counting the quantity and quality of links pointing to it.

    Furthermore, the searches were free.

Yes! The technology was turning the markets upside down.

That's when I realized that when we don't pay for the product or service, it's because we are the product and the service. More noticeable than that, was understanding that the data of our online activities was not evaporating, but well stored for the main act. We, in the euphoria of democratic access to information, are leaving very well extracted digital footprints by a trillion-dollar industry per year.

But we were so drunk with this divine gift of free connectivity and unlimited access to information that no one stopped to read the terms and conditions obscured on some website page that we accessed for the first time.

All of our interactions, credit card use, web searches, location on maps, likes, were being collected in real time and linked to my and your identity, giving any buyer access to our emotional impulse.

    Don't believe me?

    Then answer me this:

Have you ever had your cell phone answer a question that you never even asked, reminding you of a moment when a certain word was mentioned in an informal conversation?

Yes! They are listening to us all the time. Armed with this knowledge, they compete for my and your attention, offering a constant flow of content, created and seen only by us.

And my friend, reader, I can say with all clarity to my fifty and many years, this is the truth for each and every one of us.

What I like, what I fear, what attracts my attention, is to know what my limits are and what it takes to cross them, since we are all seeing the effects of this filtered and controlled reality.

This world as we know it today has become a deeply divided ruin, leading to some questions:

How did that dream of a connected world divide us in this way?

Is it just me or society as a whole?

Understanding that we are dealing with society as a whole, Western and Eastern, I can assume that behind this admirable new world are all businesses. But what is the role of businesses in a world where everyone's information is controlled by a handful of companies in the West and East?

The answer may be the simple fact that there are no businesses without people, at least for now, and people are still analog and not digital.

However, people in these companies rely on the same technology that is causing transformation in their businesses and lives.

Not because of the technology itself, but because of the difficulty for companies to keep up with the exponential advancements that are just a click away on their personal smartphones.

Imagine! How many business meetings are being monitored right now, through their innocently left smartphones on the tables. However, every problem is a dormant opportunity.

This global connectivity that technology offers us, means that any natural, geopolitical, environmental element, among others, instantly impacts businesses and destabilizes any value chain in which they are found.

    We call this disruption.

Following this chain of events, the adaptability of businesses depends on how we interpret these signals of disruption and turn them into market opportunities. Perhaps more sustainable, fairer and able to reconnect the world through purpose and not just profit at all costs.

Profit is a consequence not obedience.

What I see all the time is many companies starting their activities as a result of a simple market opportunity, by observing existing unsolved problems to generate value at all costs to the customer, giving up a conscious purpose.

Without purpose there is no direction, and those who don't know where to go, any path will do. It is in these fragile models that disruption acts, destroying businesses and kidnapping their customers.

The alignment of purpose with the ability to produce things that are permanent or ephemeral, broad or narrow, will define a lasting or temporary market positioning.

Regardless of goals and strategies, there must be a common understanding of why the business exists and where it's headed. Direction is not a matter of command and control, but of focus, enabling and encouraging people to focus on what really matters.

And when that happens, you cease to be a company susceptible to disruption and become an agent of disruption.

To cause disruption, we need to understand that fulfilling the organizational purpose requires leaders who inspire, motivate, awaken passion, and show the way. Great leaders lead to noble purposes that create great companies that deliver excellent experiences to customers and become great brands.

When Jeff Bezos from Amazon noticed how Barnes & Noble had taken the traditional bookstore business to a level of sophistication and wonderful stores, he saw that he could not compete and reversed direction by reducing the size and dematerializing the business. At first virtualizing the stores and then the books themselves. It was not a change from physical to digital book in PDF format. The business stopped being the sale of books to become the instantaneous and intangible diffusion of content, ideas, knowledge, and entertainment.

If everyone thinks and acts the same way, sometimes it is necessary to go in the opposite direction and ignore conventional wisdom to find a higher purpose. To become a company capable of inspiring, challenging, collaborating, innovating, learning, achieving results and providing satisfaction for its employees, it is necessary to have a common purpose and values endorsed by those who work there.

Sailing to success is like sailing the ocean... it's necessary to predict the tides... cross rough waters... maneuver around obstacles... and use the winds... to reach the desired destination. It's rarely a straight line. It's necessary to steer towards the portrait of the future and do the right things."

Going from point A to point B, the first idea is to follow a straight line. However, life is unpredictable, and circumstances change: the winds blow, the waves beat, the currents push, obstacles block, and opportunities arise. The paths may be winding, but values will have to remain straight. The better the company understands the meaning of its existence, the better it will create products, provide services, and strengthen its image.

Without a purpose, values, and vision of the future, it is not possible to get the best from each employee because deep down, we do not know what is expected of them, how to perform their work, what constitutes a successful performance, or how to contribute to the company and community.

In this scenario, transformation is unlikely to occur, there is no motivation or inspiration that directs innovation in a constructive and meaningful way. And innovation for the sake of innovation often leads to a waste of time and energy. Without a starting point or destination, it is not possible to have focus or fully evaluate the purpose that is being proposed and the factors that determine behavior.

Companies of any size should have souls that can be distinguished by the public, not as a result of a creative advertising campaign, but as a collective result of the souls of each individual within the company. When the reason for existence and the desired destination are not clear, the organizational personality and behavior are predominantly driven by stimuli that motivate and only favor survival.

In a world where the information you consume controls you, it is necessary to know which path to take and which signal to connect to, even though we are all so digitally connected and biologically divided.

    The Signs

In 2022, we saw an example of this division, as we experienced the emergence of a new world order with Russia's attack on Ukraine. This invasion clearly shows a division of forces led by Russia and China, bringing global insecurity after 80 years of World War II.

Still, we are dealing with the aftermath of a global pandemic and the avalanche of changes that have reshaped entire landscapes. Artificial intelligence is
