    Chapter 1

is house was a split level with a garage at ground level, a pool, four bedrooms, and a main bedroom with its bathrooms. The property was on a prime beachfront.

And it was the glass doors that Daniel was looking through as his mood was irritable and he lazed in the living room with his legs outstretched on the dark mahogany-colored sofa, with one limb in a full cast from hip to ankle. Thankfully, the sofa cushions were luxurious and fluffy, not to mention extremely comfortable. What the hell was he thinking of leaving the hospital so early? Pero, Dios mío, he was in pain. The private hospital only kept him for four days to recuperate before sending him to his beach house in Cadaques. His private nurse, Hugo Mano had strict orders to follow, and he had come highly recommended from the institute.

He had a high-tech wheelchair that allowed the set leg to be fully elevated from hip to ankle. It also could be dismantled to accommodate easy mobility from the wheelchair to his bed or the sofa. The doctor apprised him and his nurse that he could not attempt standing on his own; otherwise, he would cause undue damage if he put any strain on the leg. The femur and fibula broke when he had tumbled to the ground in a tangle of four legs.

He grumbled under his breath about the damn accident again. He took out his anger on Hugo a while ago, but he was still angry at himself.

What’s that? Paul asked as he leaned towards the sofa where Daniel was resting.

Daniel jumped in fright when he heard the voice close to his left side but above his head.

    Merda! Eris! he growled.

What is it, senyor? the maid asked in her native dialect of Catalan as she came out from the kitchen.

She was a short, small built woman who maintained the household for Daniel.

I ...I...think I am hearing ...things...er... ghosts, he muttered in Catalan.

With his peripheral vision, he caught a figure on his right side. He swiveled his head and, to his utter consternation, saw Rachel walking towards him. She stared straight at him, and he felt he was losing his mind again. The bloody woman looked real but was out of reach and touch.

There is no ghost here, Eris continued in Catalan.

Paul asked the maid, What’s for breakfast? in the same language.

    Chorizo, y baguette.

Daniel spat out angrily, You just spoke to a bloody ghost Eris! Senyor Pablo is not a ghost. He is your guest, with his family, Eris

    duly told him.

I can't believe your story, Daniel told her as he sent his housekeeper a stern stare.

Eris shrugged and said under her breath, Ase.

Rachel sat down next to him and put her hand on his forehead,

    Are you okay?

Daniel almost fell off the sofa bed when he felt her hand touch his forehead. But he could not because the cast was cumbersome on his right leg, keeping him immobile from his hip to ankle. He tried
