Imagine a world in which you were the only person able to discern colors. In a world full of those who could only see in shades of black, white, and gray, you might feel that something is wrong with you. You might even feel blinded by the extra sensitivity to color and amazed at the observations you can make that no other souls around you may notice. The feeling may drive you crazy at times—after all, why can’t anybody else see all these vibrant and beautiful colors that tend to overwhelm you with sensory overload? Trying to describe those colors to anyone else might result in a tilted head and an arched eyebrow, followed by questions about your mental health and well-being. To someone with no idea what the words red
and "yellow'' mean, you may as well be speaking an entirely different language.
With no one to understand you, you may try to ignore all those colors that tug at the edges of your senses, demanding your attention. You may wish they didn’t exist and suppress them, focusing on other things in life, until the colors fade and become dull visages of what they previously were.
This is what life is probably like for you, dear empath. To be attuned to others’ emotions is like being the only person to see colors in a colorblind world. In reality, you aren’t alone, although it may feel that way. Some empaths are fortunate enough to have a support system that values their senses and encourages their sensitivity, but others are marked by their loved ones as being too sensitive
or overly emotional.
This could not be farther from the truth.
The pursuit to understand why you are different and what makes you so unique ends here. In this book, I want to share my considerable experience as an empath. Empaths are vulnerable to chronic fatigue, burnout, anxiety, depression, addiction, and physical and mental illnesses, and self-care is especially important for people like us. While it is a gift to be able to discern and feel the emotions of the people around you, it can also be incredibly draining on your mind and body. Taking care of yourself will help you stay happy and healthy. It will also help you manage your empathy without getting drained. This book will be your reference guide when you feel lost, confused, or depleted. The 130 self-care tips, techniques, and meditations offered within these pages will support your journey through life as an empath.
As an empath, you are already a powerful, wonderful contribution to the world. You deserve the emotional resilience that these tips will bestow upon you.
