About this ebook

If you want to know how to easily use sound healing to elevate your body, mind, & spirit, but don't know where to start, keep reading.

Modern life is filled with stress & anxiety. Unhealthy lifestyles are leading to misplaced emotions, chakra misalignment & blocked meridians. This can lead to physical & mental illnesses. If you're experiencing painful emotions such as jealousy, bitterness, or resentment, this will impact your electromagnetic field at the mental & sensory levels, causing a disturbance within the body & manifesting physical symptoms.

On top of this, our modern way of life in noisy cities has caused us to implicitly accept sound pollution as part of our lives. Because of the constant onslaught of noise pollution in our technological culture, our ears can now only hear within a narrow frequency spectrum. Our inability to discriminate what we choose to listen to is having a rapid impact on hearing.

A few years ago, the water at Japan's Fujiwara Dam was polluted, & authorities couldn't figure out how to decontaminate it. Somebody suggested having a priest bless the water. The priest chanted a sutra over it, & what followed left even skeptics in awe. The water cleared on its own & became safe to use! When coupled with sound, intention can transform the world.

If sound can have that much power over a body of water, then take a second to imagine what it could do for you.

You'll discover:

  • The brain waves to target for maximum restoration that no one is talking about
  • An impressive understanding of the mysticism of sound throughout history & cultures

Sound Healing for Beginners - Astral Shadow Publishing

    INTRODUCTION

Modern life is filled with stress and anxiety. Unhealthy lifestyles are leading to a plethora of disorders, such as misplaced emotions, chakra misalignment, and blocked meridians. These disorders can lead to physical and mental illnesses. While mismanagement of emotions and lifestyle contribute directly to these ailments, environmental factors also have significant effects. Sound is the most-neglected environmental factor, but this neglect is unintentional. There is and always has been something more important than addressing sound pollution. We have implicitly accepted sound pollution as part of our lives.

We are constantly surrounded by sound. There are sounds from moving cars, building construction, the overt sounds of horns, chatter, pets, crying babies, and people arguing. The list is endless. What was once an evolutionary advantage, the ability to hear, has, in some ways, become a liability.

Conversely, it's almost miraculous how a beautiful song can help us forget our troubles. A special song can make someone's day better. While the therapeutic effect of music is subtle, it is impossible to ignore. Research has shown time and again that music can improve a person's mood. In sound therapy, certain frequencies are used to open up blocked chakras and restore the flow of energy through the meridians, improving one's physical, spiritual, and mental health.

The beneficial effects of vibration have attracted considerable attention for centuries. In the 18th century, the discovery that bumpy rides through cobblestone streets could be good for one's health led to the invention of vibrating chairs. The Abbé de St. Pierre invented the tré moussoir or fauteuil de poste to treat melancholia, liver disease, and other ailments.

In the 19th century, physicians cited the benefits of sound in treating Parkinson’s disease, insomnia, migraine, depression, hemianesthesia, and other conditions. Several studies have found that sound has a salutary effect on blood circulation, the heart, the central nervous system, the symptoms of cerebral palsy, and much more.

In 1938, Dr. Royal Raymond Rife treated 16 terminally ill cancer patients with sound therapy, with phenomenal results. After the patients were exposed to electromagnetic waves of a predetermined frequency, Dr. Rife reported a 60% reduction in the size of cancer cells.

Professor Anthony Holland of Skidmore College was able to replicate Dr. Rife’s findings. His findings highlighted the effect of sound in treating pancreatic cancer and leukemia cells. However, many of these studies have been made on a nonexhaustive premise, suggesting that they have laid the groundwork for future studies.

Our forebears used sound more frequently in science and engineering. It is believed that for centuries Tibetans have used sound to lift large stones into the air. Ancient Egyptians were also suspected of having used sound as a source of power. Many believe that the staff of Osiris acquired its magical powers by manipulating sound. Saudi Arabia’s Al Naslaa is a perfect example. Al Naslaa is a rock 20 feet high and 30 feet wide located 50 miles from the Tayma Oasis. What makes it unique is that it is split straight down the middle in a clean cut, with the two halves balanced on small plinths.

Sound is an integral part of our lives and, in many ways, a lost opportunity. Studies about the role of sound in our lives can help us to transform chaos into peace, health, and beauty. This book explains the ways in which sound therapy can significantly improve your life.

    THE MAGIC OF VIBRATION

The word atom is derived from the Greek word atomos, which translates to something that cannot be subdivided. It wasn’t until the late 19th century that it was discovered that an atom contains electrons within that revolve around a nucleus made of protons and neutrons. These subatomic particles are swirling clusters of energy with specific properties. The way in which energy swirls or vibrates in them defines their behavior.

Electrons, protons, and neutrons make up an atom. Atoms combine to form molecules, which then form compounds that have certain properties. In short, compounds are energy packets carrying vibrational information. Everything around us is in a state of vibration. The laptop I am using to write on is in a state of vibration, and so is my cup of tea. Even I am in a state of vibration.

Sound is the audible vibration that travels through the air. Many cognitive processes are involved in the perception of sound. The human ear can detect sounds in the range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Anything outside of this range is imperceptible to the human ear. Does this mean that any vibration that a human ear cannot perceive is not a sound? Everything, from atoms to Proxima Centauri, the second-closest star to the Earth after the sun, emits sound.

In allopathic medicine, certain compounds are prescribed to relieve symptoms. These vibrating compounds convey information to the body, which then reacts predictably. The drawback of using these chemical compounds is that when they interact, they emit heat, and most of the information they carry is wasted. According to one estimate, 90% of the information is lost in the form of heat.

There are alternate methods of conveying information that are far more efficient than chemical compounds. Energy, if used directly, can be 100 times more effective than these compounds. It is capable of communicating 100% of the information. However, manipulating energy in a way that can convey something meaningful at a cellular level can be tricky. Light and sound are two forms of energy that can be safely and easily manipulated.

I hope that my explanation has demonstrated that sound is a vehicle for communication. We convey information readily in our daily lives. The sound of a crying baby lets the doctors know that the newborn is healthy. The complaints of our loved ones indicate that we need to take action.

Communicating information to different organs of our body with the help of sound in a way that could benefit us medically is more complicated than a verbal confirmation for movie night. Chemical compounds travel through our bodies at the speed of a foot per second. In the air, sound travels at a speed of 1115 feet per second, in water at 4921 feet per second, and in glass at 18,373 feet per second. Our bodies are 70% water, which makes them good conductors of sound. A lithotripter uses vibrations to break up stones in the kidneys and gallbladder.

    THE MECHANISM OF SOUND HEALING

Rubbing a wet finger along the rim of a crystal wine glass will make the glass sing. I was amused to try this, but my amusement turned to horror when the glass shattered in my hand. The glass had reached its resonant frequency, which is the frequency at which the material vibrates at its greatest intensity. All physical things have a resonant frequency.

This understanding of resonant frequency is used to dissolve and pass kidney stones and gallstones. Ultrasound therapy is a non-invasive outpatient method that is used to treat many types of cancer.

Most allopathic treatments treat the symptoms but not the causes of a condition. A cancer cell is formed as a response to something in the body that it perceives as unfamiliar. Allopathic methods may temporarily cure the body, but in most cases, cancer eventually recurs.

Sound has a therapeutic effect on the body. To understand this, we need to understand the rhythmic function of the brain. Our brains pulsate and vibrate all the time, sometimes more frequently than others. This pulsation and vibration can be measured in cycles per second, or Hertz (Hz). Cycles per second are simply the measure of the cycles of brain activity carried out in a second. These cycles are measured by an electroencephalogram (EEG). There are four categories of cycles based on the number of cycles carried out in a second.

    Delta Brain Waves

There is a striking contrast between the way you feel when you are sleeping, meditating, relaxing, or in a wide-awake state of alertness. When your brain is in a deep meditative state, it is said to be in a delta state, meaning that it is emitting delta waves. When you are completely relaxed, all your problems melt away. Being in a delta state is essential for rejuvenation and restoration.

    Theta Brain Waves

As brain activity increases, the waves change into a theta waveform. Our brain is still relaxed, but it can now focus a little more than it did in the delta state. It occurs especially when our dreams become vivid. Most of us dream in 90-minute cycles, and that's how long the brain remains in the theta state.

    Alpha Brain Waves

When we turn to our hobbies to wind down, our brains enter the alpha state, meaning that they relax but remain active. We can enter the alpha state when we are doing something fun, like reading a favorite book, cooking a special dish, writing a journal, or daydreaming.

    Beta Brain Waves

Any activity that demands our active attention releases beta brain waves. It happens when we are working, strategizing, or engaged in a hobby that requires creative thinking. Since this happens when we are awake and alert, the beta state of mind is the most common.

An understanding of brain waves will help us understand how sound healing can help us achieve a deeper state of relaxation or a more intense state of concentration. Alpha brain waves are ideal for concentration and for activities that demand a calm mind. However, it can be difficult to understand without a knowledge of entrainment.

    Entrainment

The Cambridge Dictionary defines entrainment as "the process of making something part of a liquid or flow of something and carrying it along:

Increased areas of open water are expected to improve the aeration of lake water from wind entrainment.

The entrainment of air into liquid metal as it is poured into a mould."

Entrainment is often observed in pendulum clocks. The motion of one system causes the other to mimic it, and a temporal lock takes place. We can also observe this with tuning forks. When a tuning fork is struck against an object so that it vibrates and is then placed next to another tuning fork, the second one will begin to vibrate at the same frequency.

Entrainment is also apparent in our sensory and motor systems. This observation was put to practical use in physical therapy. The first study was done in the early 1900s by Thaut and his colleagues. It noted that the recurrence of audible rhythmic patterns could be used to treat patients diagnosed with movement disorders (Thaut et al., 1999).

When studied from the perspectives of psychology, behavioral movement, and kinematics, it was revealed that not only does entrainment influence the timing of movement, but it also improves space and force recognition. The mathematical models also confirmed that for the development of movement, auditory-rhythmic support is crucial to motor planning and execution.

In addition to these findings, it was observed that entrainment of the brain, particularly the temporal region, could be applied to rehabilitation. This helped establish that music and rhythm can significantly benefit brain rehabilitation. These discoveries gave sound therapy a solid scientific foundation.

The American Psychological Association defines brain entrainment as the natural synchronization of brain waves to a frequency or rhythm presented via music or some other environmental stimulus (e.g., noise). Some researchers believe that brain wave entrainment can be used to induce changes in mood (American Psychological Association, n.d.).

In sound therapy, entrainment uses rhythmic waves that induce your biological systems to respond in a similar way. Brain wave entrainment is a method of aided meditation that uses sound pulses. Entrainment is the harmonization of two discordant beats through synchronization. To induce altered states of consciousness in the brain, brain wave entrainment pulses a different sound in each ear, ideally through headphones. Examples include binaural beats and isochoric tones, which promote focus, deep sleep, and relaxation.

    Homeostasis

Homeostasis is a self-healing mechanism employed by living organisms at equilibrium. Quite simply, when our body is in a deep state of relaxation, not only does it promote a sense of wellness, but it will also activate an innate self-healing mechanism. Cats do this by purring when they are exposed to something that they like or to soothe themselves when in pain. Unlike our feline companions, we have long forgotten it.

The benefits offered by sound therapy help us to achieve homeostasis, which then facilitates self-healing. When the body is placed under stress, sympathetic brain activity increases. The body then goes into a fight-or-flight response.

When our body relaxes, the parasympathetic nervous system activates, promoting homeostasis. In sound therapy, the brain is first entrained by sound waves. In other words, the sound wave's many harmonics alter our brain waves. The human brain activates the alpha and theta states as it tunes in to sound waves, thus relaxing the mind. When the mind is at ease, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated.

    Resonance

Merriam-Webster defines resonance as a reinforcement of sound (as a musical tone) in a vibrating body or system caused by waves from another body vibrating at nearly the same rate. The most common instance of this phenomenon can be observed in the tuning forks. When two tuning forks are brought together, and one of them is made to vibrate by an external force, the other one starts replicating the movements and then continues to move at the same frequency on its own.

As everything is in a state of vibration, it can also be deduced that everything has a resonant frequency. When understood from the perspective of sound, our bodies also have a resonant frequency. However, the resonant frequency of the body isn't simply dependent on its organs, bones, tissues, or cells; it is also affected by thoughts and emotions. We have the ability to attract beings and experiences into our lives. This belief is consistent with the law of attraction which teaches that our thoughts and feelings have the ability to attract what we want into our lives.

When misfortune strikes, it can be hard to find a reason for it. Unwanted events occur when unresolved emotions build up and disrupt our existence's frequency. Similarly, one may have rarely witnessed themselves attracting people who do not align with their mental state. Happy people attract happy people, and miserable people attract miserable people. This also makes the concept of good and evil seem bleak.
