About this ebook

Children are going to take many steps in life. They are going to take steps that may lead to a fork in the road. There will be choices to make. There will be questions and decisions that can be life changing. Which voice will they hear? Which voice will they follow? What part does prayer and faith play in their lives? What seeds were planted in them to make a good harvest? Will the seeds of religion or self-worth make a difference? Or not? With God and our guidance, they will step to the right. They will follow paths leading to great futures, to be the best that they can be. I pray that Step to the Right will be a blessing to all who read it, as it is to me.

    Abandoned yet Saved

Mary’s mom left when she was eleven years of age. She went out for a loaf of bread and never came back. Mary was heartbroken. She felt unwanted and abandoned.

As sad as she was, Mary knew how to survive. Her mother taught her how to cook and clean and keep the house. She knew how to wake herself up in the morning and go to school and do her homework. She was a very independent girl.

With each passing day, Mary’s hurt lessened for her mom. The hurt was replaced with anger. And then she felt nothing. She often pretended that she never had a mom. She told herself that she was a daughter of a spy hidden away so no one would harm her under an assumed name, Mary. Her real name was something only a spy could say.

Her mom had left her a note in the bread box, informing her all the house bills were already paid up for a year and to notify her aunt Stein if she needed anything. The note also said that her mom would be back in a years’ time. There was no forwarding address and no phone number. Just a note with Mary’s name on it.

Mary’s house was by the water, so when the tides came, she would often get water in the basement. But this one time, the water didn’t stop coming. It flooded the house. Mary had to call her aunt Stein. People were evacuating their homes.

Mary didn’t want to go but knew she had to. God must have a plan,
