T his story is about a man fresh out of the army and a woman who works as a barmaid at Bra Drop.
Stephen got out of the army after turning twenty years old. He made it back to his hometown, which is Celina, Ohio. He got off the bus and proceeded to walk home. Well, while walking toward home, he went past a bar called Bra Drop.
Oh, I think I’ll just go in and get me a drink. After all this time, I do need a good stiff drink.
So he went in there and sat down, then the barmaid came to him.
What can I get you, sir?
The barmaid was half naked.
Oh, can you show me your titties?
How dare you!
Well, you’re dressed like a w——, so I assumed that that’s what you’re for—to show your titties.
May I help you? What kind of drink do you want?
Oh, I’ll just take a beer. Thank you. Drafted or real cold, hopefully really cold. Thank you.
The barmaid proceeded to get the drink and went to the bar. She brought the beer back, and the guy kept flirting with her.
Could you tell me what your name is?
It’s Camille.
And about how old are you?
I just turned eighteen.
And why are you working here if you just turned eighteen?
’Cause there’s only the jobs and it’s available.
Well, if you don’t want to be flirted at, you shouldn’t be dressed like that.
Who are you to tell me I should dress differently? You’re not my father.
I’ll bet you, your dad does not like what you you’re dressed.
Yeah, he doesn’t like it, but he can’t stop me from working.
Would you like to dance?
No, oh, wait a minute. I’ll think about it right now. No.
Okay, I did ask well.
Then Stephen drank a few drinks, and then he ended up leaving. He headed back home, back to his family. His mother, Luna, and his father, Peter, along with his siblings, were all happy to see him back—all but his dad. His dad threw a fit and told him if he couldn’t work to make a living, he needed to get the hell out.
Meanwhile, on the other side, on Camille’s family . . .
Camille went home after work and met up with her mom and dad, Peggy and Rick. She happened to be dressed in her sexy outfit when she went home. Her dad got angry and proceeded to beat the hell out of her because she was dressed like a whore, and all her siblings did that. (That’s all the families for now. They got another one, but I can’t think of the name right at this moment.)
Anyway, the separate families had their own lives of what they lived, and they had a lot of horror living that they don’t. Their parents were very vicious toward them. Their parents did not have any respect for them at all. If they messed up, they would have a dish in their face. They would have their food thrown down. They would have nothing to eat, and they would have to go out and fetch food for themselves.
Stephen, he had to go catch night crawlers to sell to be able to have food for him to eat. Camille, she had to do her horror stuff and sell herself at a bar just to make ends meet for herself.
No, I asked you for the worst parents in the world, but can you blame them how they treated their own?
* * *
Matthew kept going to the bar, eventually freeing up the gabion. They started dancing and hanging out together. He decided that he was going to sing her a song, which was a very sweet one. It’s one of the country ones. It was from Charlie Rich, Behind Closed Doors.
He had a cigarette one time, but he did try to sing the song to her.
Everybody, from what I hear, tells me it was really good.
So she decided to join, even this song, the singing group, for trade. They
