About this ebook

People are fascinated by angels who have been with God since the beginning of time. People love to hear the stories of angels coming to people's aid. Indeed, they are known as ministering spirits. However, they have also been used to destroy armies, deliver messages, and carry out God's commands. In the Old Testament, angels are used over and over. They witnessed Satan being cast from heaven after a battle between good and evil. They worshipped God in his throne room. They watched God with wonder as he created Adam. Sadly, they also watched Adam and Eve give in to temptation, allowing evil to take over God's once perfect creation. Generally, their presence causes fear in people. Some people even try to worship them. But what do they think of us? What would the angels say if they could tell the Bible stories from their perspective? The stories from the Old Testament are told by a fictional anonymous angel. The angel not only tells well-knowns stories from his point of view, he also participates in many of the stories as well. The storyteller gives a glimpse into a spiritual world that few people get to see. Based on passages in Revelation and other books of the Bible, the angel reveals God's holy throne, describes the angelic battle between good and evil, questions man's ill-fated decisions, and grieves with God over man's fall. The angel even explains to us why God made the choices he made. Is it an angel or is it Christ? The angel tells all.

    About the Author

This book goes out to my beautiful daughters and gorgeous grandchildren that they may know the length and width and height and depth of his love for them.

    The Birth of God’s Hope

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

    —John 1:1–3 (ESV)

From: an angel of the Most High God, a living servant of the Lord and of the sons and daughters of man.

To: the dear children of God

No man was around when God made the heavens and the earth, only angels witnessed the miracle of God’s creation. As only God can do, we were amazed and awed by this. But God has given man curiosity so many wondered what it was like at the beginning. Because of this, Father God, who loves man so very much, asked me to put into words the beginning so that his children would know what the beginning was like. This is very difficult for me because speech is so limiting. We angels have a thousand melodious words to just say God. Human beings, although made in the likeness of God, have limited speech and understanding. My heart’s one desire is to obey God. I can’t help it. His loving kindness overwhelms me and compels me. So I must do the best I can to tell you about the days that God created his dream. It is my joy and honor to serve you, but this does not make my task any easier.

Don’t worry about my name. You probably would not be able to say it. Angels’ voices are much clearer and purer than human voices. Often when God gives a human being extraordinary singing talent, you say they sing like an angel. But even the most gifted singer cannot match an angel’s voice. Your voices are so guttural and heavy compared to ours. But even so, God loves to hear you sing and praise him more so than even us angels. We feel no jealousy about this. It is just and right for God to love your praises more, as you will see.

I don’t really remember the day I came into existence. I just knew that suddenly I was aware of a shining warmth and found myself in the presence of a beautiful, glorious God. His love becomes light, which fills the heavens with his glory. The crystal sea that surrounds his throne reflects the light of his glory. Not even the rainbow that encircles his throne can detract from this sight. It is difficult to describe God to the sons of man. God has so many names: the One Who Is and Was and Is To Come, the Ancient of Days, the Bright Morning Star, Father God, Holy Spirit, and so many more. The Three Who Are One continually blur and blend together as they walk, sit, move, and think as One, yet they are Three. It is a beautiful sight to see. The son of man only understands this, in part, because you only see shadows and reflections of what really is. Your vision is much like seeing a pacing tiger through a slatted fence behind a frosted glass. You can only see small blurred slices of the tiger between the slats, never the whole majestic creature and never at once. Do not despair. Someday the veil will be removed from your eyes and you will see all.

The angels and I were joyously happy residing with God in heaven. Well, most of us anyway. God created a beautiful universe. We thought it was perfectly complete. But one of God’s most cherished leading angels, a beautiful cherub who had been covered in fine jewels, became proud. He wanted to become God. He forgot he was only God’s creation. He became evil for evil is merely the absence of love. Without God, there is no love. He corrupted one third of the angels, and a great war broke out in heaven. God was victorious of course, and the evil angel and his followers were cast from heaven into the universe that God had created. However, the universe that God created was damaged in the war by the rebellious angels. This was not a problem for out mighty God.

More and more frequently, we could see God deep in thought. If possible, his face would shine just a little more brightly and his love would be warmer. If possible, the rainbow encircling his throne would shimmer a little more radiantly. If possible, the radiant crystal sea glowed brighter. I say if possible because this is not possible.

Everything created by God is perfect and holy. God is heaven’s light. We have no need of the sun as you do here on earth. If your frail human forms could tolerate it, it would be like being in the center of the sun, only brighter but without the burning heat. Still, it’s warm and comforting. I know because I have been in the sun. Somehow when God would start dreaming, there would be a change in the glow. We angels sensed that a change was coming but did not know what or when.

Suddenly, an expectant hush filled the heavens one day as the Three Who Are One stood together. We angels knew that the time had come for the Three Who Are One to do something wonderful. The Holy Spirit left the throne room and hovered over the dark expanse that had once been God’s universe. The Son began humming, the vibrations of his voice energized the dark expanse. Then he lifted his powerful voice and said, Let there be light. Light exploded instantaneously in heaven and swirled around the throne room. It was not God’s perfect shining holiness, but a subdued copy of his glory. It wavered and shimmered, always changing, bending, twisting, and moving. I ran my fingers through its golden glow and was amazed how soft and warm it felt. The angels burst into song and praise at this sight. We bowed down and sang Holy, holy, holy! We all knew that God created something wonderful, but we did not know why. What was it for? We did not need the light in heaven. We had God who was our light. God would only laugh when we asked him and called it good. The light shall be called Day and the dark Night, the Lord God declared. He put boundaries on the light so that where the light was not present, it was dark. A tiny spark of light would cast out the darkness with shades of grays and purples. God then divided the day into morning and evening. The day would be followed by the night so we suddenly knew evening and morning. Time was born. In the eternity of heaven, this was the first time we saw time. We were awestruck. That was the very first day.

The second day was even more amazing. As the angelic choir sang a sweet song of praise, God cried out, Let there be a firmament amid the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. The power of these words stretched the heavens. The universe bloomed like a flower bud opening to the morning sun. The heavenly choir’s voices rose in crescendo in unison with the exploding universe. In this vast darkness was a tiny bubble. The bubble began to shake. As we watched the water began flowing and bending until the bubble appeared, which separated the waters above and below. Between the two waters was a vast dark expanse. Now the expanse was still made of water, but God changed the water into vapor. But do not be fooled, the water vapor had its own tides. Thus, the firmament divided the waters below from the waters above the firmament. God called the firmament heaven. The heavens were made of the tiny sky and the expanding universe. This was our second day with time being split into morning and evening.

On the third day, God set to work without delay. The angels gathered before the throne expectantly. The heavenly choir sang joyously about the wonders of the Lord. Then God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together in one place, and let the dry land appear (Gen. 1:9, NKJV). The water bubbled and rolled, groaning like a woman giving birth as God gathered the waters of the sea into heaps. The pulsing seas roared, spraying water far into the dark sky as the black muddy earth rose from the deep. We could see that there were tall peaks and deep valleys across the earth. There were also rolling plains between. As the sea rolled back, the land dried a rich dark brown. Like waves after a fearsome storm, the seas angrily slapped the shore, resisting God’s boundaries. Each wave grew weaker and weaker until the seas were silent and still. Then God’s voice thundered, Let the dry land be earth and the water seas." The dry land was warm and brown. What is this for? we pondered. God said, It is good, and we knew it was so. The earth was richly brown and full of promise, but still barren. God would not allow it to remain so. The Son said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed. A sea of green rolled across the earth, softening its valleys and peaks. God said to the universe, And the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself on the earth. At his word, seeds appeared and sunk into the soft soil. Tiny green leaves broke through the earth and shot up toward the sky. Soon these tiny shoots became seedlings of various shapes and colors. Some bore round leaves, oval leaves, jagged leaves, and leaves of different shapes and colors. The seedlings grew thicker and stronger until they were trees with their branches raised high as if praising the Lord God who made them. But God was not yet done. On these branches, fruits grew as varied and bright as the trees that bore them.

Surrounding God’s throne, as I said, is the crystal sea. From this flows a crystal river that weaves throughout heaven flanked by pure gold streets. The crystal river glows with the reflection of these streets. But this is not what makes the streets beautiful. On both sides of the crystal river in the center of the golden streets is the tree of life. The tree of life bears twelve different fruits. The fruit trees that God made for the earth only produce one kind of fruit. Each tree on the earth was only meant for its own kind. The apple bore the apple, the pear the pear, the walnut tree the walnut, the palm tree the coconut, and so forth. Within that fruit is a seed that could become a tree of only that kind to bear more fruits. It’s a model of God’s eternity, never ending, always renewing. This was the end of the third day. Once more, God declared its goodness. All of heaven was glad and rejoiced. Joyously, we danced and sang before the Lord.

On the fourth day, God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth (Gen. 1:14–15, NKJV). God took some of the golden light he made between his hands and birthed a tiny flaming star. He made
