There's No Time to Waste! - Jacqueline Conway

    Introduction

On September 18, 2011, I was having a conversation with a woman I met at a local grocery store who was an employee there. We had established a relationship through my constant trips to that store, which happens to be my favorite. Oh, I must also explain that it’s very easy for me to meet people. God built me that way and for a purpose. In this book, I will affectionately refer to this woman as Miss Priscilla. Miss Priscilla was a sweet lady with a lot of wisdom who was a several-time cancer survivor. Now, on this particular day, she said to me, Jackie, you know, there’s no time! No time to be mad or hold grudges. There’s no time to worry about tomorrow or your future. You have to live in the moment now!

I thought to myself, What a great philosophy on how to live my life, on how we all should live our lives.

This conversation with Miss Priscilla stayed with me that night and the next day during my commute from home to work; in the early hours of the morning, I pondered upon it during my prayer and conversation with God. As I thought about my discussion with Miss Priscilla, the Holy Spirit began to speak to me about the word time. The Holy Spirit whispered, There’s no time to waste! He then proceeded to give me seven things that I should no longer waste my time on. Those seven things are what I want to share with you in this book.

For many years, I didn’t know this was a book. I sent it out as an email to inspire those closest to me. I printed it out and I had it posted in my cubicle at work. One day, when a really good friend started preparing to put a women’s conference together, I told her I wanted to speak at her conference. As I was thinking about what subject I would speak on, I came across that paper. Immediately, the Holy Spirit had me pull two subjects from the list and I used them to create my speech. While preparing my speech, the Holy Spirit whispered to me that this information that He gave me all those years ago is a book that I need to write.

Before I dig into the subject matter, I feel it’s important to talk a little bit about the word time. I remember once hearing a sermon in which the word time was broken down in its Greek form. The Greek definition is divided into two terms. The first word, Chronos, describes the sequence of time or the order of things. It’s where the word chronological comes from.¹ The second word, Kairos, refers to the opportune, well-chosen, favorable, best for, and appropriate time.² This book will concentrate on the importance of Kairos time.

I’m not an expert on the subjects I will be discussing. I’m just a woman of God who wants to be used as His vessel. Throughout the book, I will be sharing my knowledge and experience, as well as antidotes and quotes, but mainly biblical scripture in reference to these subject areas with the hopes that it will enlighten, inspire, but most importantly, help toward healing for anyone who may be struggling, as I do, in these areas.

    Chapter 1

There’s no time to waste on: Relationships that continue to hurt you no matter how many times you express what hurts you!

Relationships can be defined as the way in which two or more people, objects, or concepts are connected.¹ The standout word in this definition is connected. In the relationships in our lives, there’s an attachment of some kind, whether it be between spouses or romantic partners, family members, friends, co-workers, etc. These are the connected relationships I will be discussing throughout this book. There are all types of relationships that we associate with these connections in our lives, but the four that God has given me to define and discuss in this particular chapter are:

    Toxic

    Reason, Season, Lifetime

    One-sided

    Conditional

Toxic relationships, by definition, are ones that can be poisonous and harmful.² They can take away our peace and our ability to enjoy our lives. You know you are in a toxic relationship if you see
