A Life Truly Fulfilled By Christ - Lula Gant

Love in the Gifts God Has Blessed Us With

I know writing is a gift from Almighty God. I have a passion to write. But I never had the urge to write anything fictional.

Everything is always tangible, it is real and just as it happened, and it is definitely true.

It’s statistical because I am giving you some information on my life. Not only physical but my spiritual life. And my connection and my relationship with my Almighty Father God in Heaven and His Son, Thee Christ and my Savior and His Holy Spirit that He sent back to live within me. And has given me the same love as they that sent Him and gave Him. To lead me to guide me, to remind to love and give back to me all truth of their Gospel. The tangibility of Almighty God of the Heavens and His Son, the anointed one, sent down from Shekinah Glory, the sanctified one Jesus Christ: written in actuality and true love.

He is so good. I can sing sometime. I can sow sometime and pray and preach much, so I just give to Him, God, our Heavenly Father, all glory, honor, praise, and worship. He rightfully deserved for loving us so much

    The Gift of Life

In the forties, there was not too much about women going to hospitals to have their babies. Delivery was at home delivered by what we called midwives.

So on Aug 1, I was born at our home at 239 S. Mulberry St. here in Gramercy, Louisiana. About one-quarter of a mile from the Mississippi River, and about one-quarter of a mile from the railroad tracks. Where we live, it is still called the front of Gramercy. Afterward, we would cross over the railroad tracks and make a right turn and go pass our little post office, and the only little plant where just about everyone in Gramercy, Louisiana, worked to supply their families. This was called and to this day, it is still called the back of Gramercy. A very quiet, friendly, and wonderful little town.

At our resident here in the front of Gramercy, we, the Michaels, were the only blacks for many years in the area. But everything was just fine. There was never any kind of trouble. Our neighbor treated us with all regard and respect being the only blacks, and our father being the only black minister in the front of Gramercy. Our white neighbors would give him food or clothing for us, his eleven children.

All schools were segregated back in the forties. So we attended Gramercy Elementary School from first grade to the eighth grade. Then into the high school in Lutcher, Louisiana. It was then called Cypress Grove High School. That was from ninth grade unto the twelfth grade.

In our family, there was four older brothers: James, Vercy Junior, Harold, Joseph. Then we, the three girls: Enite, Lula (myself), and Louris. And then four younger brothers: Sullivan, the twins Alvin and Calvin, and Ronald Michael.

I was in the twelfth grade when I married my childhood sweetheart, Harold J. Gant. He joined the military (army), and we moved to Texas. We had six children: Irma, Harold Junior, Sabrina, the twins Trena (Tree-na) and Trina (Trin-na), and Nicole. We came back home then move to New York for a little while. After leaving New York, we moved to New Orleans for about ten years. And we move back to our own friendly little town and have never left since.

Our earthly father is Rev. Vercy Michael, and our mother is Mrs. Beatrice (Hogan) Michael. From our birth, they taught us all about God, our Creator and heavenly Father, His only begotten Son, our Savior, and of the comforter, He sent back to live within us, who we now know is the Holy Spirit. So we were all baptized by our father at an early age: seven, eight, and nine years of age. I was eight when I accepted, believed, and I confessed Jesus Christ as my Savior and my Lord.

We were all sent back to pray some more than more to be certain of our faith. Until we could not be sent back again. My belief and my acceptance was too strong, too powerful to go back anymore. We, the three sisters, were baptized September 1951 at the New Zion Baptist Church in Gramercy, Louisiana. By our father, Rev. Vercy Michael.

Counting back from the years our pastor’s been in church—New Zion B.C. I was about thirty-seven or thirty-eight. At my going in and partly out of Church, it was at the age of forty-two or forty-three. I was called to the ministry as one of God’s chosen vessels, which I could not believe. The heavenly Father Himself had looked down and chose me to spread His words, the Gospel. I had never left the church, but as the older folks would say, straddling the fence. But when my father expired, we received a new and wonderful pastor in which God, my Heavenly Father sent him, my earthly father, Rev. Vercy Michael, who was sent by the Holy Spirit to tell him he was chosen to the next pastor before he expired. Rev. Emil D. Mitchell became our next pastor. He is so wonderful and reminded me so much of my dad. He is very good and very much a God-seeking minister. We began different classes in
