The church I grew up in was three miles from our home. Buffalo Chapel Baptist was sitting just slightly off the Mississippi County line, but we resided in Craighead County. In order to get to church, we walked down the county line road. We didn’t get a car until I was a teenager. The nights were cold, wet and challenging as we walked every step with much anticipation of finally reaching home-only to come home to a cold house. Daddy would make a fire in the stove, while we all stood around it, until it got red- hot; then we would make a run for the beds. It didn’t matter what the weather was like, we went to church: For my parents were the glue, in which held the church together; they held most of the offices at church, mainly because they were the only members who were that dedicated. My Grandmother Duke lived on the county line, close to my Aunts and uncles and cousins-it was like a small colony: And the church was the main attraction for all. I have one sister, Earlene and Four brothers; Doyle, Larry and Danny: And Melvin Eugene whom were born and passed away before, we were born. Later on in life, we moved to Osceola, Arkansas. Church work was still the main attraction in my family’s life; by that time, the children were all adults and had lives of their on, except me, I had developed juvenile Arthritis at age twelve and were not able to work at the present time. Later on in life, I discovered my calling; a caregiver.
I had been baptized in the Buffalo ditch behind Buffalo chapel Church as a teen, but sadly, afterwards, there didn’t seem to be any change, so later on after marriage and children, I received Christ as my savior and later, received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
It is needless to say, The Holy spirit led me to a Full gospel church: It is in this spirit-filled church that, I learned about the baptism in the Holy Spirit; then begin to desire more of him: I received all he has for me, as he breathed on me, filling me with His anointing power, according to Acts 2:38.
I was called into the ministry later on and had the privilege of studying under the teachings of Rev. Carter Grind staff at Souls Harbor Full Gospel church. I am presently attending Souls Harbor after returning from attending other churches of the same faith. I am still amazed at the teaching of my pastor.
I have the privilege of being able to have my husband Bob, who has studied through the Assemblies of God College, as my own personal biblical consultant. God has blessed him with the ability to understand the biblical outline structure. I understand the grace of God more effectively so, we have spiritually helped each other. We have a desire to carry out the Great commission.view less
